Quinter Akoth Obote, H-318
The last born among her siblings Everlyn and
Evans, Quinter strikes you as a jolly, highly
self-motivated kid. She is a short, active and
obviously level headed girl, who easily takes
a leadership role among her peers – officially,
she is the leader of Hope Kids Choir,
comprising girls of Quinter’s age. Obviously,
she is a bright girl. Like her brother Evans,
she integrated into the HFCC community very
fast and, looking at her, it is clear that she is
enjoying her stay here.
Quinter lost her mother when she hardly
knew anything. She has no recollection
whatsoever of her mother, yet she seems not
to have been adversely affected by this fact –
probably her elder siblings took very good
care of her.
She is in Class Three – just the right class for
her age. I believe strongly that Quinter will go
places as she grows up; there is nothing
about her that does not speak of success!

Maureen Achieng Ochaa, H-322
she found her own age mates and was able
to integrate soon enough. Today, she can be
quite cheerful; but her shy character is
unmistakable. At nine years old, she is
smaller than her age. She is the only girl
among three brothers.
Maureen is a very active girl, doing things
and working wholeheartedly – very
impressive. Clearly, she is happy here, and
you can see that on her face. She goes to
Nyadiere Primary School at Class Four
where she performs above average.
She loves and plays soccer; one day, she
tells me, she wants to be a member of the
Kenya women’s soccer team – what an
ambition!
Maureen’s elder brother, Felix, looked
apprehensive when he arrived at the Home;
Maureen looked very uneasy. Luckily for her,

a very early age following the death of her
father – her character seems to be so stable.
She is one very likeable girl.
Clearly, Daizy knows what she wants in life.
She is very focused on her studies and is
always the first girl to go to class for evening
studies after dinner. No wonder, the head
teacher at her school has a lot of confidence
in her, believing that she will pass her Kenya
Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE)
examination quite highly.
She loves music. She is in the recorder class
and Is learning very well; she is also an Alto
in the HFCC Choir.
Daizy wants to be a lawyer.
Daizy is a very nice and beautiful girl. She
would not pass you by without saying hello
and flashing a sweet smile. It is quite hard to
tell that she was abandoned by her mother at

Patrick Odhiambo, H-334
(In words of sister, Faith) My mum died when I
was 5 and my father died when I was 8. When
Dad was alive we’d often go to the farm with him
to attend our cassava farm. I always wanted to
help him and would carry weeds out of the farm.
Even though I missed my Mother Dad was there
to lean on. Dad had a bicycle and could give a
ride to school. Dad became ill and died. I and my
brother Patrick who is also here were left to fend
for ourselves since we have no serving
grandparents to take care of us. From hand
different hand we were seen, life wasn’t easy.
Most of the time both of us had heavy chores to
do during the day and also we hard less sleeping
hours School was beginning to a dream for us and
I longed for the day my Father would ride me to
School by bicycle since he died no one has ever
given a bike ride again.
I want to thank Hope for children Home which
has enabled us to get a different ride. Here we
both have meals to eat good place to lay our
head on good school to learn and loving workers
to attend to us we are so happy. Am in grade 6
and I like social studies would like to a nurse
when I finish School so as to help the sick.

My Father died when I was one year of age
so have no clue of him, my Mother died two
years ago so know her much better and
clearly knows the kind of trouble my siblings
went through with her. Licking roof hut that
we all shared and most of the time blowing
wind would most of the time threaten to take
the roof out of the hut, hunger days and
nights and had no dreams for proper
education, most of the time we were at our
neighbors rice field either planting it weeding
it or winnowing it for a cup of maize flour. It
was great luck we had three complete meals
in a day
I sincerely thank the Hope Center home for
having accepted me I have so many other
children I call brothers and sisters good
school and Teachers to teach us good meals
and I no longer get sick as I used to get while
I was at home.

finish my schooling. Once again thank the

H-340
I had no chance to see my father, I was born
after the death of person I call my father, My
Mother died while I was a toddler as am told
all these by one of my aunty who took me in.
For a good period of time I thought my Aunty
as my Mother only to be told later that she
took me in. Life with her was not an easy one
because the Aunty had no husband to help
take care of us in the family. Could skip going
to school to help her fetch water for the
neighbors for money that was the only
economical activity around that place since
the ground was always dry and we could not
grow any crop for food.
I sincerely thank Hope Center Orphanage
home for having accepted me as I could have
broken my back because of heavy jerrican of
water. I thank you for the good house to
sleep good meals Teachers to teach us good
and concerned workers to take care of us.
Am in grade 4 and works so had to become a
doctor when I finish my schoolings I too like
singing in the Home Choir and sing alto
sound in the Choir.

Kevin Omondi, H341
Polite boy orphaned at young age by both
parents left at the care of a very aged
grandparents who could not do much. Went
through all kind of trouble to live, with the old
grandpa would go mining sand at the river
beds for money. The bed where they were
doing the mining was inaccessible and most
of the time their effort would be wasted as
when water broke the river banks the sand
would be swept back into the river before it
was sold so most of the time went to bed in
an empty stomach had no paraffin for studies
and had hard times with the teacher who
could not understand the situation back at
home.
Am in grade 7 and like science subjects
would like to be an engineer when I finish
school.
I want to sincerely thank the Hope Center
home for having accepted me in the Home.
Hopelessness is getting changed. I can see
brighter future; here I have good school to
teach us good reliable meals good workers to
take care of us good teachers to teach us.
