Dear parents,
A lot has happened in the last month. The afternoon activities (AGs) presentation was a great
success. The children put in a lot of effort and we enjoyed their great performances.
Carnival was the absolute highlight of the month, with the acrobatic show and the clowns, but
above all, the children in their fantastic costumes. It was a really great day and everyone had a
lot of fun.
The Frogs, Foxes and Flamingos had their group breakfasts on Friday, February 10th, and yet
again, it was nice to welcome and share this experience with so many parents.
Now Easter is round the corner and the children will soon begin to work diligently on Easter crafts.
The Easter celebration itself takes place on Thursday the 30th of March without parents, but as
always many photos will be posted on the website.
On Saturday the 4th of March, 2017, our school will be having an Open Day event with the
premises open to the public from 10a.m. till 2p.m. The kindergarten will participate by presenting
various aspects of our curriculum in different rooms. We hope to welcome many parents on this
day and show your children’s work as well as the kindergarten’s concept. The Zumba and
Kiswahili clubs also have performances prepared.
The school presentation will take place on Tuesday, the 7th of March at 6p.m. We also cordially
invite you to this event. Please bring along friends and acquaintances, it promises to be a very
interesting evening.
During the Easter holidays, we will be offering you a week of holiday school (3rd - 7th of April) as
every year. Please sign your children up on time. An email with information regarding this service
has been sent yesterday. Application forms will also be made available at the kindergarten
office.
From Monday the 6th of March, 2017, our kindergarten bell will ring again at 7:30 am to mark the
beginning of the kindergarten day.

The Turtles
The last few weeks, we spent a lot of time on our current topic “professions”. The traffic police
officer and the doctor really impressed us, the kinds of doctors that exist and for instance
where we go in the case of toothache. These and similar questions we tried to answer the last
two weeks. We took a detailed look at the first aid kit and were able to measure our
heartbeats as well as our temperature at the school nurse’s office.
We were traffic police officers for a day and really started to sweat while trying to manage the
‘schoolyard traffic’. We learned how to cross the street correctly in our parking lot and got
medals at the end of the day.
The children got a feel of these professions. They became curious and began to understand
about their parents’ professions as well as of other people they know. Most of the children
began to imagine which profession they would like to have one day.
By actively dealing with their environment, they enlarge their horizon and change their dreams
and wishes again and again. With the topic of the traffic police officer they learned how to
deal with the social, natural and technical aspects of their environment.
The Hippos
The Hippos spent the last weeks in the nature – our project in the garden was a nice
experience for everyone and we all enjoyed the time outside.
We were playing in the mud, walked barefoot all over the garden and we got to know
different things we find in the nature. This sensory perception was very interesting and
enriching.
We did a lot of different art things, painted a stone, traced tree bark, made a dream catcher
and colored different pictures with materials from the nature. We were talking about trees,
insects and plants and we took full responsibility for our class bunny – she is called LottiKarotti
We also enjoyed the daily picnics and the highlight was the birthday of Praise which we also
celebrated in the garden.
At the beginning of February we welcomed a new Hippo. Hannah is already a good friend to
all the Hippos and we wish her and her family a good start in Nairobi.Thanks to all the parents
for the delicious food. The princesses, fairies, super heroes and for sure the sheriff and the zebra
as well really enjoyed the sweetness of carnival!
In the coming weeks we will talk about dinosaurs and we are looking forward to the kids
bringing their dinosaur-items from home. Best regards

The Foxes
End of January, the artist Serap Riedel came to visit the foxes. Together with the children she
painted a big picture on canvas with acrylic colours. This painting will be displayed at our
Art Exhibition in May.We finished the project Fairy Tales successfully with a get together
breakfast and the Sleeping Beauty performance.
Our topics at the moment are carnival and experiments. The children are practicing the
experiments independently. They learn to understand the causes and effects better, they
are curious and explore relations and trust in their own actions while analyzing hypotheses
.
The children were extremely motivated during our experiments topic showing a lot of
engagement. Our next topic will be: numbers, quantities and shapes.
End of February we celebrated Marie´s 6th Birthday and our carnival party took place. On
Wednesday 1st of March we rescheduled our sports lesson from the hall towards outside
and had lot of fun with water.

The Dolphins
February has been a very exciting and interesting month for us all. This time we focused on
health and hygiene. We had a lot of fun learning to take care of our teeth and bodies better.
What fun we had with our tooth brushing and flossing competitions. We now pay better
attention when washing our hands and made some soap play dough for our fun bath fun day,
which without realizing colored our hands.
What hard work washing all that food coloring off!!!
Our February ended with a fantastic Carnival celebration. We would like to thank our parents
for tasty and healthy breakfast treats you prepared for us.
This February we had three birthday celebrations. Please join us to congratulate Felicitas, Aluel
and Antonio.
Sadly we had to say goodbye to Barnaby who moved end of February. We would like to wish
him and his family all the best, good health and happiness in the new home.
Our next themes for March have to do with health and safety. Helping the children understand
what they can do when they and others around them are hurt and how to recognize and
behave in potentially dangerous situations like getting lost, fire and elementary first aid. You
never know when a little child could become the hero of the day.
This of course will be followed by our preparations for Easter and the Easter Bunny’s annual visit.

The Dudus
February was a busy month for us.
Let us start with some sad news. After we had been so proud last month that we are now
having our own bunny we already had to say goodbye to him this month. After we had not
been able to catch it on a Friday, it passed away over the weekend. The Dudu-kids know that
it is now in bunny-heaven. The hippos were so kind to share their bunny with us so we still need
banana peels and carrots on Wednesdays and Fridays.
We continued talking about
the five senses this month.
First we talked about tasting
and then smelling. We made
an interesting tasting
experiment and made
good-smelling jars.
This month we have also been to
KaruraForest and experienced what is
there to see, smell and hear.
Also this month: Carnival! We had lots of
fun dancing, playing, dressing up and
doing arts. Here some impressions:
In March we will finish our topic on the five senses when talking about the sense of touch. After
that we will start talking about the weather and seasons. The dudus are really a bunch of
happy kids! Sometimes we are so busy playing and creating friendships that we forget that
Kindergarten also has rules. Then we have to be reminded for example that we should be
quiet in circle time and inform the teacher when we want to leave the room or playground.

The Frogs
In February we dealt with the topics of friendship and health. Since we have new children in
our group, it was and is important for us to tackle the topic of friendship. The crocodile Loui,
who lives in the Nile, accompanied us as a symbol. To this end, we have created a community
collage, we have made friendship wristbands with the crocodile teeth, and we have
organized a fun rafting trip on the Nile where we have shown a lot of team spirit and
cooperation. As a conclusion, we baked "Loui" for our breakfast.
As an introduction to the subject of health, we first learned how to wash hands properly. We
also learned how to clean our own nose and we decided to create a "handkerchief station"
together. This now has a firm place in our room and motivates us to clean our noses in good
time. We also did a physical check. Therefore we went to the school nurse. She showed us how
she works with, what tools she uses and we weighed ourselves and used the stethoscope to
listen to the internal sounds of our bodies. We were able to play creatively by building a
bacterium after learning about Bacteria and their effects in our bodies. We also had a fun
activity where we made healthy fresh juice we drunk for breakfast.
In the next weeks, we will go on a journey of the SENSES and play detectives; we will also
discover many things about airplanes.
The Hedgehogs
Since mid-January 2017 there have been a lot of changes in the group. Six of our 3 years old
kids left us to join the kindergarten. The move did of course bring a lot of changes to the group,
since everyone already had their positions and were well settled. We released the kids in good
faith and wish them and their families all the best.
To crown the ceremony we had a breakfast with all the kids and their parents and had a
wonderful time together.
So far, we already have three new kids who have joined us and settled quite nicely. We are still
expecting three more as from March making our group full again.
Yara (one of the new girls) enjoyed celebrating her second birthday with her new friends.
We had the topic colour and my best colour.
Colours provide a bright side to childhood. Colour is a big part of their world and through it
they are able to express how they see things. Colour represents light, a happy energy and so
on. They play with colours like playing with toys. Children interact with colour by exploring with
their senses to understand it. Through this topic we observed that kids were quickly able to
relate colours to the fruits they love and know, for instance; strawberries, bananas, grapes etc.
As a result, we managed to touch a bit on senses and its various organs.
Our upcoming theme is fruits and vegetables and on the 10.03.17 we shall prepare fruit salad
together with the kids to enjoy together.
The Flamingos
February at the Flamingo group; a short month with a lot of exciting things that happened. First
of all a big thank you to all parents and grandparents making our group breakfast a success.
We were happy to welcome back Susan and the children got comfortable with her again very
quickly. Definitely another highlight of the month was carnival. The children worked very
diligently to make the class look colorful and pretty.
Almost five weeks are left until the Easter holidays and that brings us to the outlook for March.
We would like to thank you already in advance for contributing various carbon items we use
for our music project for the open day. Right after that it is going to be all about Easter.
Interesting stories, fun bringing songs, creative arts & crafts are awaiting the children of the
Flamingo group.
Last but not least our birthday wishes go to: Eylon (3) on 10th February & Elisa (2) on 2nd March.
