ORIGINAL WHITEWARE IMAGE
VISUALISED PRESENTATION
Across the world, ceramic pattern
design and production studios have
one thing in common…PlateScribe
Now it’s better than ever – PlateScribe and
PS-Visualiser v4 are unique in being written specifically for the
ceramics industry, working hand-in-hand with standard design
software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
PlateScribe-4 maps patterns created in Photoshop and
Illustrator, along any path, automatically calculating the best
number of repeats and bending the shape accordingly. Unique
control over the position and constraint selection of individual
elements within a design ensures the desired result is achieved
efficiently. The application is now further enhanced with
real-time on-screen previews and a text notes system aiding
correct interpretation through design to print.
PlateScribe is for design developm ent and artwork production.
PS-Visualiser-4 extends the power of PlateScribe with
simulated 3D rendering of decoration on to white tableware
without the need of a three-dimensional model. PS-Visualiser
produces photo-realistic images that can be presented digitally,
or printed as design proposals and marketing material.
PS-Visualiser is ColorSync compliant, providing accurate colour
representation from origination and monitor through to proof
and print. PS-Visualiser is for design presentation and marketing.
PlateScribe and PS-Visualiser v4 incorporate
many advances which improve the overall
performance of the applications.
To gether with improvements in workflow,
many actions can be completed up to ten
times as quickly as in previous versions.
TypeMaker Ltd has provided services to the
ceramic decoration industry since 1987. PlateScribe
software is used in over 25 countries and is
internationally accepted as the tableware industry
standard for design development and artwork
production. Associated TypeMaker products include
EPS-Layout, decal sheet layout and CerDeChrom,
optimised ceramic colour separation system.

PlateScribe-4
Create design units with Illustrator and Photoshop
The essence of PlateScribe is repeating and distorting (bending)
a pattern unit to fit a given path or shape. The original design unit
is created using industry-standard graphics software, Adobe
Illustrator and Photoshop (other standard graphics applications
can be converted into these formats). Hand-painted originals can
be scanned directly into Photoshop, montaged with other
elements and textures if required, and combined with line-work.
If the original artwork has
been designed on a curve,
PlateScribe has the ability to
straighten the original design.
For production artwork,
a PlateScribe settings file defined by
a designer, can be easily updated to include multi-channel colour
separation files and the final production artwork automatically
generated. Final files can then be laid out for film output.
TypeMaker's EPSF-Multi ‘plug-in’ allows a file of up to 24 contone/pixel
channels to be accurately combined with vector linework in Illustrator.
design units can also be brought onto the fit
path and combined to accommodate handle
finishes and motifs for example. The operator
can override any settings such as the number of
repeats and alter the stretching or constraining
properties of individual units.
Display the network
A network showing the position of
the unit repeats around the actual
path can be displayed, with the
option of a real-time preview of the
units on the path.
Converting design units
The convert option will transform
the original straight units to match
the path and its parameters.The
new files remain in their original
Adobe file formats and can be viewed and edited as required.
Output to film separations
The converted image files can be laid out and output through any
page make-up and print application. For efficient page make-up
and output of large decal sheet layouts,TypeMaker has developed
EPS-Layout which includes many industry specific features,
streamlining the production process.
Define the fit path and its depth
For geometric
shapes a fit path
can be defined
mathematically,
or an irregular
path can be
drawn using
Illustrator.The
depth of the
design and its line
of least distortion can be manually or automatically set. Several
paths can be created for one project, all managed from the new
Project window within PlateScribe.
PS-Visualiser-4
Import design units into the Project window
Using ‘drag and drop’ technology, design
units can be instantly brought into
PlateScribe set to the correct cropping.
Several design units can be brought into
the Project window, helping users to better
manage their work, eliminating steps and
reducing repetition. PlateScribe now allows
you to have several layouts open, sharing
design units. Informative text notes can also
be associated with individual units, layouts
and a whole
document.
Drag the design
unit onto the path
Any design unit
currently in the project
window can be dropped
onto any available path,
at which point PlateScribe will calculate the optimum number
of repetitions for the design unit to give least distortion. Other
Visualising the design
PS-Visualiser maps the design unit/decal defined in PlateScribe
onto the background image. The correct perspective, based on
the dimensioning, combined with shadow/highlight detail from
the background image, generates visualisations in seconds. Multiple
paths can be defined on one photograph to visualise a complete
range and a document can be
efficiently updated with new designs.
Scan a photograph of whiteware
The photograph can contain additional props if required, or you
can use an image generated from a shape design package.
Photoshop paths define undecorated areas obscured from view.
Dimensioning the scan and aligning the paths
A basic set of dimensions are taken
from the original whiteware.
Three values are required to define
the actual area to be decorated.
A grid is generated, and the mid
points are positioned to fall
correctly over the scanned item.
Presentation proofs
PS-Visualiser generates Photoshop
format files that can be output to
a digital proofing device or used
in their digital form.
