Given the Transmission System Operator’s (TSO’s) responsibility for the overall development of
the system, ESBNG are of the view that it should mandate the connection method. This includes
specification of the voltage level the connection is made at, the type of connection (tail, loop- in,
tee etc) and the location of the connection
In general the applicant will be responsible for submitting a request for planning permission, but
only after prior agreement on route selection with the TSO. The TSO will support the applicant in
its application where it is reasonably required. The connection may also be required by the TSO
in conjunction with other development plans or may be in an area where the TSO is
independently developing and so in certain, probably infrequent circumstances the TSO may
retain the right to take the lead on a planning permission application.

National Grid. It is important to note that once a connection offer and quotation letter have been
issued by ESBNG, the customer has 70 Business days to contemplate the connection offer.
Given the time constraints involved in reaching a connection agreement, information on the
planning status of the project for which the grid connection is required is crucial to the acceptance
