Make sure your affected leg is well supported with a
small pillow under your knees and wear your stocking
if you have one.
Do these exercises sitting on your bed or in a chair. Rest
your legs up on a stool.
Try to make sure the room is a comfortable temperature
and that you have plenty of time.
Think about what the exercises are doing – moving lymph
out of your leg and into the chest.
Be aware of your posture. Sit up nice and straight. This
helps you take a good deep breath.
Do each exercise three times:• Take three good deep breaths
• Bend and straighten your toes- really squeeze. Do
this three times, with both feet.
• Circle your right ankle – three times in each direction.
• Circle your left ankle – three times in each direction.
• Point your toes and feet, stretching at the ankles and
pull them back up – repeat this three times up and
down.
• Bend and straighten alternate knees. Do this three
times with each leg.
• Straighten your right leg, pressing the knee down and
hold it straight for a count of three. Repeat with the left
leg. Do this three times.
• Squeeze your thighs together, hold for a count of
three. Do this three times.
• Squeeze your thighs and bottom together, hold for a
count of three. Do this three times.
• Bend up your right leg, place the foot flat on the
bed/stool, slowly and with control let your knee roll out
to the side. Repeat with your left leg. Do this three
times with each leg.
• Bend and straighten alternate legs out in front of you.
Do this three times with each leg.
• Take three deep breaths and relax
Rest for a minute or two breathing normally, then repeat
these exercises another two times
