NEP can only get free transport under 3 circumstances. 1) If there
are exceptional circumstances involved. Assessment carried out
by Education. 2) Where a pupil can’t get a place at their
catchment area school (distance also applies). 3) When pupils
move out of the catchment of their secondary school whilst
working towards their standard grades. Pupils must be more than
half way through their third year or above, and their new address
will have to be more than two miles from the high school. They
must also have lived in the school catchment before moving.
When you qualify on 3), you must ask the school to apply for free
transport as a placing request on your behalf. If 1) or 2) write to
Education. Pupil’s under 14 who attend the correct catchment
area secondary school, who live more than one mile but less than
two miles from their school are entitled to a scholar’s
