25th Anniversary Big Bash Thunder v Sixers derby
140 SHCC members, half adults, half youngsters, headed out to the opening game of the Big Bash
season at the Showground as a special celebration event for our 25th anniversary.
Thanks to the Thunder for assistance with getting such a big block of tickets and they were very well
positioned seats too. Thanks to Ian and Renee for organising our end of it.
The Sixers fans went home happy, the many green shirts not so happy but it was a great night at the
cricket with excellent weather, a fab sunset and an electrical storm safe in the distance adding to the
entertainment.
Team Photos
Team photos will be taken at training at Blick Oval this coming week the 21st to 24th Feb. All team
members need to be wearing their club whites and their baggy blue for the photo. Your team manager
will be collecting money from you this weekend or on the day of your team photo. We have to pay the
photographer at the time the photos are taken
taken so please pay your manager before the photos are taken
and preferably pay this Saturday.
The cost is
$20 for just a 8inch x 12 inch team photo
$25 for the team photo and 4 small individual portraits.
We are using the same photographer we have used for a number of years as we are very happy with
Charlie’s work.
Winter Cricket registration is open
The Sydney Junior Winter Cricket Association organises 9 players a side T20 games during May &
June for those who can’t get enough cricket and are not doing regular
regular winter sports.
Summer Hill CC does not organise these teams. They are put together by interested parents and teams
usually have a mix of players from different CWSCA clubs and teams and play under team names not
associated with the clubs. Cost per play is $80 if you want to register and have SJWCA find you a
team or if you organise a whole team, it only costs $600 to register a full team.
Further info at http://sydneyjuniorwintercricket.org.au/
Now that the coin has been tossed, let’s check out the view from cow corner and see what’s been
happening with the leather on willow.
Last weekend’s scorcher cancelled all junior and senior matches, the first time we can remember all
matches being abandoned due to heat.
U14 Div 2 Gold and guest coaches
The U14 Gold team had a couple of special guests at training recently
UNSW 2nd Garde player Sam James Nguyen and Wests 1st Grade and Thunder Development player
and CWSCA Rep coach Tahmid Islam turned up at Blick to give the boys some extra coaching.
Thanks to Sam and Tahmid, the boys had a good time and hopefully learned a lot.
U13 Thunder League Premiers & Michelle Goszko
Our U13 Thunder League joint Premiers were excited to receive their medals from retired Southern
Star Michelle Goszko. Our budding cricket champions were thrilled not only to be presented with
their medals but also have a fielding session with Michelle.
U10s SH Red v MCC Toshack
By Alec Hartley
It was a hot Saturday morning as we took on Marrickville Toshack. We won the toss and elected to
field. A great start from our opening bowlers Archie and Matthew. Archie bowling at the speed of
light and Matthew’s spin as good as “Garry”. Harry. M took a wonderful catch out in the deep.
Marrickville ending up with a score of 82.
Our two opening batsmen Edmund and Lucas got us off to a great start scoring 43, more than half of
Marrickville’s score and the highest partnership! Harry. M and Alec getting 33. Matthew and Killian
scoring 37. Matthew smashing 5 4s and also getting the highest individual score of 21. Leo and Harry.
S scoring 35 and taking the team over 100 runs. Archie and Toby scoring 42 off only 4 overs whilst
everybody else got 5 overs.
In the end an easy win for us.190 to 82 our way.
U14 Div 1 SH Blue v Penshurst
On the high veld of Bennett #2, Blue won the toss in this two day game and batted first but
Penshurst's accurate bowling kept the run rate down and the wickets falling. The outfield was quite
fast and Kshitij Cyril found the boundary numerous times in another captain's knock of 46. Addison
Sherriff came up from U12s to help out with the numbers and performed very well with the bat in his
first game in U14 Div 1, having a good partnership with Kshitij and scoring 10. Carl Arthur 15no and
Thomas Flynn 17 were putting the pressure back on Penshurst, building a good partnership till a bad
call mix up saw Thomas run out.
U14 Blue Thomas Flynn
Blue were all out for 128 leaving 13 overs for Penshurst to face before stumps. They batted
conservatively with an eye on stumps but Blue put the squeeze on by removing their two openers, a
wicket each to Ellis Sherriff and Ben Hayes and good catches to Rowan McIntosh and Thomas Flynn.
At stumps Penshurst were 2/13.
Unfortunately day two was abandoned due to the expected heat last Saturday which did arrive on time
around noon and the match was declared a draw.
U14 Blue says farewell to one of our long time and champion players, Adil Ahmed, who is leaving
our district as his family moves closer to a sports high school that he has been accepted into. Summer
Hill CC's loss will turn out to be a big gain for another cricket club.
Adil has been a great contributor to our teams over the past 5 seasons and we are going to miss his
game changing all round abilities in batting, bowling and fielding as well as his constant enthusiasm
and positive team outlook and cheerful character.
I've lost track of the number of amazing things I've watched him do over the years. His U12 century
(122no) is a standout but then there's all his other high scores and the wickets, catches and run outs
and the Peter Halliday U12 Best & Fairest award to add to the bulging bag of achievements.
His last President’s Cup Rep game for CWSCA was classic Adil - his first touch of the ball was a
direct hit run out followed by another one a bit later and then a solid 27 with the bat on a very slow
long grass outfield, consolidating the batting after early wickets were lost.
We wish Adil and his family all the best with their move and the new school.
