One concern posed was how
this distance change would affect
existing school records and topten standings for each course.
Head Coach Andy Long
responded saying, "We just kept
the old records as they were.
They will stand. Then, I started a
new top ten for the 5k. So, for
instance, everyone who ran at the
state meet this year is on the topten state meet list."
Even with the distance change
for the girls, they have competed
very well and have even
improved greatly.

A shift in policy among NSAA
officials made a large impact on
each girls' cross country team in
the state. For the first time, girls
did not run the usual four
kilometers -- a distance they've
been competing at since the
sport's inception. Now they run
five kilometers, which is the same
distance required of the male
athletes. The 5k is 3.1 miles and
the 4k was only 2.5 miles.
Trinity Call says, "It is very
hard to run a 5k; but with our
training, it is much easier."
Cambrie Cottam says that it
wasn't really much of an
adjustment for her because it was
