Boston, USA, March 28-April 3, 2016
CITY OF BOSTON OVERVIEW
Boston, first incorporated as a town in 1630, and
as a city in 1822, is one of America's oldest cities,
with a rich economic and social history. What
began as a homesteading community eventually
evolved into a center for social and political
change. Boston has since become the economic
and cultural hub of New England.
As the region's hub, Boston is home to over
617,000 residents, many institutions of higher
education, some of the world's finest inpatient
hospitals, and numerous cultural and
professional sports organizations. Millions of
people visit Boston to take in its historic
neighborhoods, attend cultural or sporting
events, and conduct business.
Boston also has a rich skating history that
includes The Skating Club of Boston, which is
partnering with U.S. Figure Skating to host the World Championships this year. The Skating Club
of Boston is a founding member of U.S. Figure Skating, and one of its oldest and most
decorated clubs. Over its 100-year history, the Club has produced two Olympic Champions, five
World Champions, two Junior World Champions, 146 National Champions, six members of the
World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and 15 members of the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
In recent years, Boston has hosted numerous,
prominent figure skating events including the 2012
U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, the 2013
ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships and
the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Boston
audiences are huge fans of the sport of skating, and
attendance at the 2016 World Championships is
expected to exceed all previous events.

selected the 2014 Olympic Figure Skating Team that competed in Sochi, Russia. The arena is
located in Boston’s West End, full of shops and restaurants and is connected to North Station, a
train station connecting Boston to the suburbs, and Boston’s metro subway station.
Practice Arena - Steriti Memorial
