Objectives of CPE
“The cure of souls” is the
College of Pastoral Supervision
and Psychotherapy’s intent in all
that it does, and therefore as we
learn together, this goal is central
to our focus. As a CPE student,
you will develop:

clinical process, feedback and
consultation
• Appreciation of the Self as
a work-in-progress
• Competency in establishing
a pastoral bond
• Ability to reflect and interpret
one’s own life story psychologically and theologically
• A critical analysis of your own
religious tradition, and a pastoral
diagnosis with reference to the
nature and quality of religious
values
• Understanding of group behavior
and group process theories
• An analytical eye toward human
behavior
Learn in a unique setting
The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington
is the only Jewish-sponsored health care
center in the metropolitan DC community,
and the largest skilled nursing home in the
area. The Hebrew Home offers rehabilitation
and recovery care in the Rakusin Rehabilitation
Center, as well as skilled long-term care in
the Smith-Kogod and Wasserman Residences
for residents with Alzheimer’s disease,
complex medical issues, and physical or
memory-related disabilities.
The Charles E. Smith Life Communities,
anchored by the Hebrew Home, also offers
independent living, assisted living, outpatient
medical care and more in Ring House, Revitz
House and Landow House, all on a campus in
Rockville, Maryland. More than 1,000 seniors
make this campus their home. Our programs
and services are open to all; respect for the
dignity of each individual is an integral part
of our mission.
• The ability to engage persons
of differing cultures without
imposing a culturally superior
dynamic
• Leadership ability and personal
authority
• The use of peer consultation
• Familiarity with the basic

Why should I take CPE?
THE
CURE OF SOULS
Clinical Pastoral Education
is theological and professional
adult education for those
currently working, or who
wish to learn how to work,
with people in crisis and
facing life-changing events.
CPE is designed to challenge and
integrate religious perspectives,
personal experience, the
behavioral sciences and
theological assumptions with
the realities of pastoral care.
Students will find strong educational and emotional support
through individual supervision
and peer group seminars designed
to develop personal and
professional skills. Experiences
in a clinical setting will give
students opportunities to grow
both as individuals and as
a group while they minister
to patients, families and staff
in a culturally and religiously
diverse environment.
Come grow from the inside out. Learn
how to listen and truly be present to another
individual through CPE.
You should consider our program
• if you are a unique person with special
gifts in pastoral care,
• if you want to learn about pastoral care
in a health care setting,
• if you wish to enrich your skills in
your current setting.
if patient care is on our campus; $1,000
if patient care takes place elsewhere.
