NEWS FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
We welcome the families from Christchurch
who are attending our school and hope they
have settled in well. Our thoughts are with
all the people of Christchurch during this
difficult time.
At the Board of Trustees first meeting
for 2011
the draft strategic plan for 2011-2016
was
approved. The next stage is for
management
to identify how we are going to achieve the key
priorities/goals. The Board would like to thank those
who participated in the meetings last year and gave
feedback into the strategic planning process. Your input
was appreciated. A copy of the plan will be sent out
following the next Board meeting on the 31st March.
Motueka
South
School
celebrated their successful Book
Week with a fun dress-up
parade of book characters. A
range of school-wide activities
all week focused on learning and
having fun through reading.
Pictured are three MSS Junior
Teachers; Mrs Sandra Hannah (aka Bob the Builder), Miss Jo Tyree (The Little Mermaid) and Maegan
Copping (Willbee the Bumble Bee). Students featured are Rose, Maddison, Hannah, Jacob and Leon.
At the February Board meeting Janet Kelly was elected
chairperson. Over the next 4 months there will be
several opportunities for the Board to attend
professional development both on line and at workshops
held at Motueka South School. We look forward to
another positive and busy year with the ERO (Education
Review Office) team due to visit the School in either
Term 2 or 3.
There is no doubt will be challenges ahead, but nothing
that can’t be met with planning, hard-work,
perseverance, integrity, communication and teamwork.
SATURDAY 9TH APRIL
11.00am to 4.00pm
Well done to those children who participated in
the recently held Tasman Athletics Champs.
Congratulations to Ben Johnston placing 1st
overall for 9 yr old boys, Sydnee Wilkins placing
2nd for 11 yr old girls, and Alana Beckett
placing 3rd for 9 yr old girls.
(Postponement date is Sunday 10th April)

MSS is updating its Emergency Kit in the event that we are required to contain students at
school for a period of time.
We ask that each student donates a can of food (non-perishable) that can be eaten cold.
Write your child’s name on the can (clearly) and Room Number. This will enable the can
to be returned to your child at the end of the year if unused.
We encourage all students / families to assist us with ensuring we are adequately
prepared.
PURPLE CUPCAKE DAY
BY NIKITA
Yesterday we iced cupcakes
with purple icing. We took
turns to ice our cupcake. The
best part was icing the
cupcake. Why did we do it? It
was to give some money to the
children in Christchurch.

PURPLE CUPCAKE DAY
BY TASMYN
Yesterday it was Purple Cupcake day. We
got to make our own cup cakes. We got to
make purple icing to put on our cup cakes.
There was a big cup cake on the court. We
got to sit around it and have our photo
taken. We did it because we were raising
money for the children in Christchurch.
