PEERS®
Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relationship Skills (PEERS) for Young Adults (ages 18 – 30) was
developed at The Semel Institute at UCLA and is a 16-week evidence-based social skills intervention for
motivated young adults. The intervention is intended for higher functioning adults without significant
intellectual disabilities, focusing on skills related to making and keeping friends, developing romantic
relationships, and managing conflict and rejection. During group sessions, young adults are taught important
social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills on a weekly basis.
PEERS for Young Adults is a parent/caregiver assisted intervention. Caregiver assistance through real world
social coaching is an integral part of the program. Young adults must attend each session with a social coach
(i.e., parent, family member, job coach, peer mentor, etc.) Social coaches are taught how to assist young
adults in making and keeping friends by providing feedback during weekly socialization homework
assignments.
