Rabbi Ryans Parsha Reflections
“Basserabie?” the stranger inquired. “Aaaah, okay. Is your cousin…?”
Sounds familiar, yeah? Of course it does. It’s the beginning of the first round of ‘Jewish Geography’.
Fun as this game may be, it is sorely so often accompanied by another infamous Jewish game called
“Fahribble”. ....Read More

Jos Horwitz and her family on the passing of her father-in-law . We wish the
family a long life and healing during this difficult time.
Friday 13 turned out to be the luckiest day for us this year as we held our popular
Market Day in beautiful weather on our top playground. We were very impressed with
those children who showed their true entrepreneurial skills by making a healthy profit
with very little initial outlay. Stalls sold some creative homemade goods ranging from
artwork to clay figurines. Others offered go-kart rides or a chance to shoot the hoop.
There was so much on offer and in the two hours of trading, a staggering R29 235,00
changed hands! 10% of this amount is paid to the school to be shared between
charities and a school fundraiser. Well done to all the Grade 5 and 6 traders and a
thank you to all who shopped or helped on the day.
Adam and Claudia Marcus, Olivia and Sam on the birth of their precious son and
brother.
Noddy Production at the Artscapes Theatre
Well done to our stars Emma-Rose Blacher, Juliet Blacher, Jared Daitsh, Jamie
McNally who are all preforming in the Noddy Production at the Artscape from the
28 June until the 12 July. This promises to be excellent holiday entertainment.
16 Highlands Primary pupils took part in the Cape Town Singing Eisteddfod. We
achieved 4 Diplomas and 12 High Honours. Here is group of participants : SophiaRose Wolpert, Ruby Kurgan, Angela Georgieva, Maya Kovarsky and Ella Videtsky.
Gemma Cohn, Leila Edelstein, Jade Gershowitz, Olivia Marcus, Keren Schiff
and Juliet Blacher who joined 10 St Cyprians Grade 3 girls and not only were
awarded a group diploma, but won a medal after competing in the Under 9 group
dance category finals. Gemma Gershowitz in Grade 4 also danced in the group
dance that won the under 10 medal. All these girls did extremely well in their solo
dances too, but this achievement was special because it required many week-end
rehearsals and quite intricate team work / collaboration.
Please could all parents ensure that they CONTINUALLY look at the NAME

The winning U9 Soccer Team - Excellent achievement boys! (story below)
Sports Results:
Soccer:
The u9 Red Team took on a tough Reddam team last Thursday.Wehave not won
against this Reddam team in a number of years and the boys displayed a great game
of soccer. Some impressive passing and good link play between the boys saw them
through to a 2-0 win. Goals were scored by Leo Letschert and Max Wurr.
The u9 Blue team played Weizmann last week Thursday and lost 4-0. Well done to all
the boys who participated in the match.
The u11 boys soccer team played Weizmann last week and after going a goal down,
came back to win the match 5-1. This was the best display of determination and
teamwork I have seen in a Highlands team for a long time. The boys were disciplined
and fought for every opportunity that came their way. Man-of-the-match was given
to Ari Cohen for his composure at the back. Overall,it was s great team effort!
Well done boys, we are very proud of you!
The u11B team boys lost 5-1, a superb goal from Ethan Weltmann for Highlands got
us on the score sheet, but Weizmann’s team were too strong in the end.
The u13 boys lost 4-0 to Weizmann on Thursday. This eagerly anticipated match lived
up to its expectations with some fiery tackles, but overall Weizmann had too much in
the tank and won the match.
Chess:
Our chess team played St. Cyprians on Friday and lost 2½ - 1½. Well done toAidan
Weiner for winning his match.

Thursday 19 June:
No Matches, practices will take place.
All other extra-murals will go ahead as per normal.

Thank you for the support you have given to the Herzlia Ticket so far!
Please note the following changes:
We will no longer be running the Herzlia Ticket as a Lottery as of February. Due to licensing
complications with the National Lotteries Board and the fact that the majority of you donate
your winnings back to the school, we have decided to proceed as follows:
The monies raised through this project have in the past gone to help fund unforeseen
operating costs within the school. These profits will now be allocated rather to various
Herzlia Foundation projects aimed principally at assisting children whose families would
otherwise have been unable to afford school fees.
We look forward to having you be part of this exciting change that now entitles you to a tax
certificate from us once a year for the total value of your donations for that tax year.
