Important Information About Ramona Disposal Service’s
New Waste and Recycling Collection Programs
Starting in March, RDS will be enhancing your current collection service by
implementing source-separated manual green-waste collection and automated
trash collection! As part of these new programs, we will be providing residential
customers with a new wheeled gray trash cart for household waste.
Please review the information in this brochure for details about RDS’s state-ofthe-art collection program.
“Go Green!” Green-Waste Recycling
RDS is proud to provide customers with a new separate collection service for your yard-waste materials.
Starting in March, RDS will be sending a separate dedicated vehicle to collect your green waste. Residents
will begin to place all their green waste in their existing rigid trash cans and set them out on their regular
collection day. Our green-waste recycling program is simple, convenient and very important to the
preservation of our environment and precious landfill capacity.
Why a Separate Collection for Green Waste?
Green waste is a large part of the waste stream and can be recycled! In order to comply with the State
of California’s mandate to divert about 50% of the waste stream from landfills, RDS is enhancing our
recycling program to include a separate green-waste collection. Collecting green waste separately will
help us reach the diversion goal and help preserve the life of our landfills.
Don’t toss out your old trash cans!
Your existing rigid trash containers (no plastic bags) can be used to separate green waste for recycling.
Residents can use standard size, 32-gallon capacity rigid waste cans, to separate recyclable landscape
waste and other organic materials for collection.

Help keep recyclable green-waste clean by placing only the following in your green-waste cans:

*Please do not use plastic bags!
*Sod and ice plant are acceptable in small quantities. Due to the weight of those
materials, fill cans only half full so they weigh no more than 50 pounds.
*Bundles tied with string or twine are okay if they are less than 4 feet long and
less than 18 inches in diameter and tied securely.
Keep It Clean!
Please keep contaminants out to help ensure green-waste material is able to be recycled. Please do
NOT place any of the following in your green-waste can:

RDS Will Deliver New Trash Carts to Residents
Residents will receive one new trash container from RDS. This new 95-gallon capacity cart will hold as
much trash as three standard trash cans. The new trash carts have an attached lid that is great for sealing
your trash and keeping animals out. The attached lids are also good for storm-water pollution prevention.
Each cart also comes with a set of wheels which will help make moving containers to the street much easier.
Fully automated waste collection is a state-of-the-art waste removal system that is extremely efficient and
results in a clean and orderly appearance on waste collection day.

What To Do On Collection Day
• Set out carts at street level with the wheels against the curb, if applicable, and out of the way of traffic.
• Arrows on the lid of carts should point toward the street.
• Keep a minimum of two (2) feet distance between your carts, and three (3) feet from obstructions such
as parked cars, mail boxes, trees and telephone poles.
• Please do not overload your carts. Do not over fill the automated carts so as to prevent the cart lids
from properly closing.
• Please be careful not to place carts in areas of traffic, such as bike lanes, in order to avoid blocking
paths of travel.
• To ensure your recycling, trash and greens-waste carts are serviced, please place all containers out by
6:00 am on your service day.
Questions & Answers
Will just one automated trash cart hold a week’s worth of trash?
For most residents, yes. This should be more than enough capacity for most families, particularly when
recyclables and yard waste are separated properly for recycling.
Can I use regular trash cans or trash bags if I fill my automated cart before my collection day?
No. The automated waste collection trucks can only pick up the automated carts provided by RDS. The
mechanical arms that empty automated carts cannot pick up smaller objects such as standard trash cans
or plastic bags.
Can I receive more than one trash cart?
Yes. Additional trash carts are available from RDS for a nominal fee. Requests can be made by phone or

Commingled Recycling
Continue to recycle newspaper, mixed paper, cardboard and household containers (glass, plastic, aluminum
and steel cans and bottles) all together in your blue commingled recycling cart.

WHEN WILL CARTS BE DELIVERED?
Automated trash carts will be delivered to all residential customers
between March 2 - 13, 2015
Automated trash collection and new green-waste collection will
begin on your regularly scheduled service day the week following
delivery of your new automated trash cart.
