FAECAL FAT COLLECTION
PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS




Collection container, provided (pictured).
All samples should be collected into the same container.
I some patients, extra containers may be required.
Safety Precautions
 Discuss dietary requirements with your clinician.
Instructions
1. Commence normal diet of 70-100g of fat per day, one day prior to starting collection of faeces.
2. This diet must be adhered to for four (4) days (1 day before and the 3 days of the collection)
3. Sample Menu:
Breakfast
Cereal, milk, sugar (as desired)
1 slice toast with at least 1 teaspoon butter/margarine, jam etc.
Tea or coffee
or
1 Poached egg
1 Slice toast with at least 1 teaspoon butter/margarine, jam etc.
Tea or coffee
Morning Tea
Tea or coffee
Biscuit and cheese with 1 teaspoon butter/margarine
Lunch
Ham sandwich with or without salad. Use at least 2 teaspoons of butter/margarine.
Any dessert with added cream.
Afternoon Tea
Tea or Coffee
Cake or scone
Dinner
Medium serve grilled steak (approx. 120g)
Potato and vegetables of your choice
Baked custard or glass of egg flips
Supper
Tea/coffee and sweet biscuit
4. Collect all faeces for 3 days into the container(s) provided. Store in a cool dry place.
5. Write your Name, Date of Birth and the dates of collection on each container.
6. Bring all 3 samples along with the request form to the Pathology Collection rooms.
