Excellencies
Grand Outlandish is right around the corner and we, as a Barony, still have much to do.
As you may know the Barony will be hosting a party on Saturday night in the Citadel camp. We
will need your assistance to help prepare the food, set tables, decorate and much more. If you
cannot make it to Outlandish and would like to send food or drink to make the party better, the
Honorable Lord Warmin will be accepting donation at fighter practice every week.
Clann Wars is well under construction, but volunteers are still needed. Please see Leah if
you would like to make the best event ever even better. Your help is appreciated and needed.
The May officers meeting will be on Saturday, May 21 at 11am at the fighter practice site.
We will be discussing Outlandish, Battlemore and Clann Wars. We need your input, please plan
on attending.

Minutes
Seneschal: The Ecoli-Inn will be open for: Outlandish, Battelmoor and
Clan Wars. If you have any questions, or would like more details,
please contact Warmin. We need new ideas on how to collect toys. From
having events where the site fee is toy donations to competitions at
events that require a toy to participate, any idea is welcome and
needed.
Knight Marshal: Greetings Populace of the Citadel. I would like
to urge you all to make an effort to come out to our weekly fighter
practices as much as possible. With you attending, it will show
others that have interest in our group, what and who we are.
If there is just a couple of us fooling around, it won’t look quite as
fun or interesting. Fighter Practice will be moving to Saturdays
at Noon at the El Paso Museum of History starting 1st weekend in
March (5th). El Paso Museum of History, 510 North Santa Fe Street.
Exchequer: The Exchequer for the Citadel is still in fine condition and
the Barony is solvent. This month is the end of the first quarter of the
present year and I am preparing the report for the Kingdom. That will
be sent to the Kingdom Exchequer no later than months end.
Chiurgeon: Still no injuries to report.
Scribe: (On behalf of Lord Edmund) Lord Edmund has created a site
compiled of really useful information for the SCA. The link is:

Arts and Sciences: Lord Edmund took first in the performance
category for the Kingdome Arts and Science Competition. He has,
graciously, provided a copy of the poem he preformed to be included in
this news letter. Congratulations to Lord Edmund!

Business Meetings
Business meetings are on the LAST Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm. This month’s meeting will be at
THL Warmin’s home at 3017 Devils Tower. This meeting is mandatory for officers (in the event of an
emergency, or inability to attend, please contact Lord Warmin to arrange for your report).
Business meetings are open to all members of the SCA interested in finding out more about how the
Citadel and the SCA function behind the scenes, anyone is welcome.

Citadel of the Southern Pass Mid-Week Fighter practice, held every
Wednesday, is on hold until the Spring.
Fighter practice is held every Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM Mountain Time at the
El Paso Museum of History, 510 N. Santa Fe Street. From New Mexico heading towards downtown
El Paso, take I-10 E. At take exit 19: Downtown/Convention Center/Tourist Information Museums.
Turn right at N. Santa Fe Street; Museum of History will be on the left. At the light, (Franklin Street)
take a right and there is free public parking on the weekends. If you are coming from East El Paso,
take I-10 West, to exit 19B: Downtown/Convention Center/Tourist Information Museum. Merge onto
East Missouri Ave and take a left on North Santa Fe.

There are many that make the magic of the SCA come to life for not only themselves but
the fortunate who have been touched by their presence. It is not enough to dress the part that is
easy. To have the grace and love to help others realize their dreams puts you apart from all
others. Below is a small list of those who have, and continue to, make the magic of the SCA

The Stag and the Sun
By Edmund Peregrine
The worth of a king is in warlike deeds.
Many the men his mead-benches fill,
Heroes shall haste to his hearth and hall,
If bards do call him battle-brave.
I sing of the Stag King, strong of shield,
Mighty in battle, his mead-benches full,
Giver of foe-grief, giver of gold,
Guard to his folk and his gold-adorned Queen.
The King of the Sun calls to his kin,
“Comes a king my crown to steal.”
“Gather thy men, metal meld,”
“Forge the sword, the foe to slay.”
Then spake the Stag, strong in words,
Spake then of war, his wordhoard unlocked,
“Brother bids us, battle binds us.”
“Wyrd and kin-oath call us to war.”
“Outlands fighters, fear not fate.”
“To meet the foe, to fall on the field,”
“To go to death is glory given.”
“If wyrd wills, thy warrior hearts”
“Will be the victor and vanquish those”
“That come against us, king or common.”
“Then to thy deeds will I drink a cup,”
“In the halls of the living, or the halls of the dead.”
The flags of the Sun fly over the field,
The Blue and the Gold greet the dawn.
The Stag then leaps in the light of morning,
The Stag’s Queen, calls for quiet,
Drums toll the death-knell, doom to all
Who stand against the Stag and the Sun.
Steps forth the Stag-King, stands in the place,
Between the armies, before the battle.
Spies the one who seeks to slay
And take the crown of the King of the Sun.
“I am the Stag, strong in battle,”
“King of the Outlands, son of kings.”
“Look with fear upon thy foe,”
“Thou that com’st a crown to steal.”
“My men are fierce and full of rage”
“That such as thee should seek our harm.”
“Go thieves, go from this field.”
“There is no honor, there is no glory,”
“Here for thee, thus I have said it!”
From Blue and Green, great was the shout.
Forward the fighters to the field of battle.
Strike the shield with sword and spear,
Battle-bold byrnie-breakers.
The foemen fall before the fire,
The battle-fury of the fierce Stag.
All are swept before the surge,
Before the soldiers, swords of the Outlands.
Against the flood no foe can stand.
The blood cools, clear is the field
The Green and the Gold hold the ground.
The King of the Ravens calls his kin.
“Cro-ak, cro-ak, come to my hall.”
“My roof is lit with the light of stars,”
“The moon my hearth-fire, my mead-benches full.”
What meat do they eat? What mead do they drink?
What songs are sung for the slain in battle?
Widow’s wailing for warriors lost,
These songs are sung ‘fore the Raven King.
The King of the Sun calls his kin.
“Come, come, come to my hall.”
“My lamps are lit, the light of the hearth”
“Shows the men my mead-benches fill.”

What songs are sung for the slain in battle?
Songs of the fierceness of Aten fighters,
These songs are sung ‘fore the Aten King.
Goes o’er the field of Green and Gold.
Raises a goblet, “Go my husband,”
“Fulfill thy oath to fighters owed,”
“And sing the fame of friends departed.”
The Stag drinks and stands to praise
The deeds of those that death has taken.
Each man in turn, then takes and drinks
A cup to the bravery of battle comrades.
