SUPER POND CLARIFIER (SPC) - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES THE POND/LAKE GO OUT OF BALANCE?
In a normal ecosystem under normal conditions there are many life forms in the pond/lake that co-exist in balance –
weeds, fish, microorganisms, bacteria, amphibians, insects, algae, etc. When the nutrients in the pond are impacted
by unnatural events like the increased inflow of nutrients from fertilizers used on neighboring lawns, etc., the pond can
go out of balance due to the impact of these excess nutrients. The ecosystem will try to compensate for the
imbalance with some organisms increasing in number. Typically, the simplest life forms will have an advantage when
these nutrients are in abundant supply - algae is one of those simple life forms. When the ecosystem is out of
balance the algae can overtake other life forms and disrupt the pond ecosystem, causing odors, and reducing other
activity in the pond.
WHAT DOES SPC DO?
SUPER POND CLARIFIER is a blend of beneficial bacteria that will out-compete the algae for the nutrients in the
pond/lake and bring the pond/lake back into balance. In nature, when animals and plants compete for the same
resource, the animals always win. So when the bacteria in SPC are introduced to the pond/lake, they will digest the
excess organic material and nutrients in the pond/lake resulting in a reduction of algae and a clarification of the water.
When the microbes or bacteria come in contact with excess organic material and nutrients they digest the these food
sources breaking them down into harmless invisible gasses (hydrogen, oxygen, water vapor & carbon dioxide). In a
nutshell here's the magic: you start with an ugly mess – a pond/lake with excess algal growth, odors, and stagnant
conditions; after using our SUPER POND CLARIFIER the algae and excess nutrients are gone and you replaced
them with: 1) invisible, harmless gasses, 2) naturally occurring bacteria, 3) clear water, 4) a balanced pond/lake with
proportional amounts of all life forms including algae(5 – 10% cover is normal), and 5) after the pond/lake is back in
balance, the extra bacteria die off and are recycled in nature.
HOW FAST DOES IT WORK?
The process takes some time to complete – typically two-three weeks before you start to see dramatic results. If new
nutrients are added during this period, it will take longer to accomplish the anticipated results. Please remember that
on a warm day you can see an algae bloom “come out of nowhere and take over your pond or lake” - this product will
work well in most conditions with increased activity in warmer temperatures.
WHERE DOES THE ALGAE GO?
When the algae is ‘starved’ for food it will begin to die back and drift to the bottom of the pond/lake. The bacteria will
treat it as additional organic material and it will become a food source for the bacteria. As algae is a simple life form it
is quite resilient and it can return if the nutrient levels increase.
WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF THIS PRODUCT ON THE POND/LAKE?
Aside from clarifying the pond/lake water, removing the excess nutrients from the pond/lake and returning the
ecosystem to balance, there is no other effect on the pond/lake, weeds, insects, wildlife or other parts of the
ecosystem.
