Reading and Comprehension
Each school has a clinic with a clinic aide. If a student gets sick at school, the clinic aide
determines if the child is ill or needs medical attention. The clinic aide calls the parents to
come and pick up the child if he is sick or injured. The clinic aide may suggest that the child
be taken to a doctor or for emergency care.
If a student needs regular medication, a parent must bring it to the clinic in its original
container. The clinic aide then gives the child his medication at the correct time in the clinic.
When parents are called that their child is sick, they must come to the school as soon as
possible to pick up the child.
Children should not come to school if they are sick. A sick person needs to recover from the
illness. Colds, flu and other illnesses are contagious. If a child is sick or has a fever, parents
need to keep him home from school.
Directions: Answer each question.
1. What are parents’ responsibilities?
2. If a child is sick, what should he do?
