MOTHER’S DAY STALL
Thanks to our wonderful Parents Club for their organisation of the Mother’s Day stall this week. It was another great example of the work that these parents do. They spent many hours organising and setting up the stall and we thank them for
their contribution.
CROSS COUNTRY
Today, our students competed at the District Cross Country event held at Bermingham Park, Glengarry. At the time of
printing, we did not have the results, but we thank all students for their efforts and representation of our school at this
event.
GIVE A DAMN, GIVE A CAN
Over the next two weeks we are collecting cans for the Rotary Club which will be sent to the St Vincent’s Can Supermarket.
These cans are then forwarded on to families in our local area who, for a variety of reasons, need help to put food on the
table. This is a very worthwhile cause and we encourage you to donate a can or two. We are currently running a competition at school to see which class can donate the most cans. Please get behind this worthy cause!

NAPLAN
Our grades three and five students did their NAPLAN (National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy) testing
this week. Much has been said and written about NAPLAN testing in the media. We believe that the NAPLAN process
in schools should be part of the program just like any other assessment that we do. The results give us a snap shot of how
our children are performing in May of each year and we use the results to assist us with assessing our program. Please be
mindful that the NAPLAN tests are only one way that students are assessed and we monitor student achievement in
many ways, all throughout the

MELBOURNE ZOO EXCURSION
As part of our inquiry unit the Grade 1’s and Grade 2’s enjoyed
a visit to the Melbourne Zoo. We had a terrific time seeing
the animals that we are studying.
The best thing I did at the
Melbourne Zoo was seeing the orang-utan eating.
I cannot believe I saw a
zebra looking at us like
we were interesting.
Bethany
My favourite part of our
zoo trip was when I got to
see the lemurs because
they were funny. I liked
seeing the tigers because I
could not see one in the
wild. I learned that tigers
are endangered. Tristan
My favourite part of the
Melbourne zoo trip was
when we were in the
butterfly house and a
butterfly almost landed
on me.
Ben
At the Melbourne Zoo it
was exciting seeing all
my favourite animals. I
liked the giraffes because
they were so tall.
