Why do you need to learn CPR? - Winthrop Harbor Police Department

CPR: Your Link in the Chain of Survival
Why do you need to learn CPR?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, performed properly and promptly
can help victims survive until the ambulance personnel trained in advanced
medical techniques arrive on the scene. Almost two thirds of deaths from
heart attacks occur before the victim reaches a hospital. Many of these
deaths can be prevented if victims received prompt help.
Should you make the commitment to learn CPR...
Perhaps a loved one suffers from heart disease. Maybe your job handles
medical emergencies. No matter what your reason, it is important to realize
that just knowing how to properly perform CPR will make you a more useful
member of your community. Brain death occurs within 4-6 minutes after the
heart stops beating. Speed in starting CPR and calling 911 is the key to
helping save lives.
Which courses do we offer?
We offer Basic CPR/AED (free to village residents, $25 for non-residents),
CPR/AED/First-Aid (free to village residents, $40 for non-residents), and
Healthcare Provider CPR (typically necessary for those employed in some
medical field, and is $35 for all attendees)
