Come along to our social
media course on Tuesday
1st November from
10am until 2pm, Foxwood Community Centre and find out
all the answers to those questions you never dared to ask
for fear of looking foolish
Besides working on their own crafts and learning new
ones, they find time to knit for local charities and good
causes. Recently Leeds General Infirmary’s premature
baby unit was the recipient of a large quantity of
knitted items while Twiddle muffs were delivered to
residents at Ebor Court, Poppleton.
Yvonne Mulholland from the Ideal Care Homes Group
said: “Thank you so much. This means a lot to help
our residents.”
We are supporting the Rotary
International’s programme to eradicate
polio worldwide and will be planting 5000
purple crocus around Foxwood in
November.
This will bring to 50,000 the number of
crocus bulbs planted since 2000. If you’d like to join us in
planting these, please send an e mail
to [email protected] or see our Facebook page and
notice-boards for details.

Yorkshire in Bloom have awarded
Foxwood Residents Association a Gold
Award for their efforts in the
community caring for the garden at
the Foxwood Community Centre and
looking after Foxwood Park.
Please pay on the day.
Following the installation of the information board
about Chesney Fields, a decision was made to form a
local history
group covering
the Foxwood
area.
The first houses
were built in
Foxwood 50
years ago and
many people are
keen to see that history recorded and kept alive.
The first meeting will take place on THURSDAY 10th
NOVEMBER AT 11am AT FOXWOOD
COMMUNITY CENTRE.
The group will be led by Jackie Talbot and will meet
on an ad hoc basis so come along to this first meeting
and find out more.
Organised by Foxwood Community Centre, our stall will be a
tombola and a children’s bran tub.
Any donations will be much appreciated and can be left at the
Community Centre any Thursday between 10am and
11.30am or alternatively email [email protected]

They were competing against other
areas in Yorkshire including Carlton
Marsh Nature Reserve, Barnsley, and
parks in Bradford, Halifax and Leeds.
Shirley Gumley, Chairman of the
Residents Association said: “Over the
Sue Galloway & Shirley past two years a small number of local
Gumley with the awards
residents have worked hard to improve
and maintain these areas. We were
surprised and delighted to receive this award and hope
that it inspires others to improve the area in which they
live. Getting involved with Yorkshire in Bloom is one of
the best things the Residents Association has done as it
brings free advice, help and fresh ideas.”
Anyone wanting to get involved should come along to
our gardening club - Foxgloves - see right. No expertise
is needed!
BLUEBELL WOOD PLANTED
Overgrown and dead trees on the boundary of
Foxwood Community Centre were removed in
February by Community Payback whose
positive effort was appreciated
All tools provided
This area will now become an informal woodland area and, thanks to a grant
from Jewsons, bluebells have been planted by members of the Foxgloves
gardening group.
Volunteers plant bluebells
A seed and plant swap is planned for 2017 so if you’re dividing plants now, grow
them on and bring along to the event details of which will be announced later.

GREEN’S ESTATE AGENTS
We are very fortunate to have Greens on board as one
of our community sponsors.
Simon Cartwright, the owner, has donated more than
£ 300 over the past two years from house sales in the
area and we are really grateful to him for doing this.
He has also donated waterproof jackets for Foxgloves
gardeners so we can now garden in all weathers!
Thank you Simon

A sell out event featuring
WONDER PHIL the magician was organised on 11 June
by Foxwood Residents. Food was supplied by Cafe No 8
Catering and music by Alan and Jean.
There was lots of free entertainment and every child
attending was presented with a celebration medal by
Shirley Gumley, Chairman of the Residents
Association. A great, fun event which brought the
community together.
