HP DREAMCOLOR LP2480ZX
PROFESSIONAL LCD DISPLAY
and applications in film/video post-production
If you’re a colorist or post-production professional,
then you know how important color is in today’s postproduction film & video workflows—especially with
the new HD formats. Proper color management and
equipment will minimize surprises in your workflow
and reduce the number of costly proof cycles. HP
DreamColor Technologies, and specifically the
HP DreamColor LP2480zx Professional LCD Display,
facilitate just that: they make it easy to produce
accurate, predictable, and consistent color across a
film/video production workflow.
colors that will ultimately end up in the theatre—
allowing color accuracy and consistency from concept
through production.
Color grading—keep the director happy
A post-production colorist has a wide range of
responsibilities that (attempt to) keep the director
happy—from making sure film gets properly
transferred to video, to achieving a “look” that was
intended but perhaps not quite caught during
shooting. A key component of successfully
achieving these tasks is the accurate and consistent
representation of the production’s color at your
desktop. You need a display that can consistently
and accurately represent the range of colors that will
appear on the final video or film.
• 30-bit color resolution to reduce banding
With the HP DreamColor LP2480zx Professional
LCD Display, you get a billion-color display that puts
unprecedented color accuracy and control on your
desk. The HP LP2480zx can faithfully recreate the
Much color-critical work today is still done on CRTs
because of their visual performance; LCD displays
could not compete—until now. The HP DreamColor
LP2480zx display is an affordable alternative that
provides:
• Black levels that are up to 4x lower than LCD studio
reference monitors priced up to 4x more
• HP DreamColor Engine to lock in a project-wide
standard color space. Factory-calibrated presets
include Adobe® RGB, sRGB, Rec. 709, Rec. 601,
DCI-P3 emulation (97%), and full gamut
• An RGB LED backlight with wide gamut and
programmable white point
Collaborating without compromising color
As projects grow in size, post-production tasks often
get distributed over a range of experts and across
geographies. Collaborating on distributed projects
demands that everyone sees the same colors at their
desktop—requiring both accuracy and consistency.
HP DreamColor Technologies and the HP DreamColor
LP2480zx display can accomplish both.

film/video workflows
Whether you’re using Microsoft® Windows® or Apple
Mac OS, HP DreamColor Technologies can reduce
overall design times and lower costs within your
graphics arts workflow:
1. For projects that originate from film, telecine
transfers and editing can be more accurately
monitored when you have an accurate representation
of the color that is being transferred to tape. The whatyou-see-is-what-you-produce capability can lower the
number of experimental telecine cycles and reduce
surprises when the tapes are loaded for editing.
2. During the editing process, the billion-color HP
DreamColor LP2480zx display gives you accurate
color space management, rich visual quality, and
predictable results. For geographically dispersed
production shops, you benefit from knowing that all
participating designers and account managers—
regardless of their location—will see the same colors.

3. In the color correction process, colorists can use the
accuracy of the HP LP2480zx display to make sure
key elements of the program look the way they were
intended by the director. Plus, corrections in color
balance, exposure, and saturation can be fine-tuned,
and the director has a wider range of options for
achieving a certain “look.”
4. If the program is destined for film, the HP
DreamColor LP2480zx display can be used to verify
that the transfer to film is as intended, from beginning
shots all the way to film.
