International Exhibition and Conference for the Printed Electronics Industry Exhibition: March 29–30, 2017 | Conference: March 28–30, 2017 Messe München, Germany lopec.com Photo gallery How can printed electronics improve our daily lives? Wearables: The word on everyone's lips. These smart, wearable electronics are the must-have accessories of the sports industry, with fitness trackers and smart watches measuring sporting performance and connecting users to their environments. Now the trend is also making headway in the medicine and health sector. Especially in the case of current demographic developments, wearables have great potential to offer. Smart sensors can be integrated into plaster casts, bandages, and clothing to monitor patients' vital functions—even when they are at home. These products are often powered by a technology that, although little-known, has its sights firmly set on the future: printed electronics. LOPEC 2017, the International Exhibition and Conference for the Printed Electronics Industry, held from March 28 to 30 in Munich, Germany, reveals how this technology works and how it can improve our daily lives. The photo gallery: 1 154 exhibitors from 17 countries will showcase what the futuristic technology of printed electronics has to offer at LOPEC in Munich, Germany. Unlike conventional electronics, the electrical components are manufactured using a printing process. 2 Printed electronics are already in use in many applications without users even knowing it. Just have a look at your wearable devices! At LOPEC, the Holst Centre presents smart t-shirts that monitor circulation and respiration rates. Printed electronics are ideal for applications that require thin, lightweight, and flexible properties. 3 The technology is also proving its functionality in the automotive industry: Organic light diodes—"OLEDs"—are now being integrated into cars in series production. Audi's OLED tail lights boast good visibility at even the tightest of angles and do not dazzle other drivers, making for safer driving. 4 Attention sun worshipers and jewelry lovers! Just in time for the arrival of spring, LOPEC will present a smart ring from Helios that measures vitamin D levels and shows how much sunlight the user has been exposed to. 5 The optical sensor by ISORG and FlexEnable is pliable and wafer-thin. It can be integrated into smartphones, door openers, and many other applications. As an additional security feature, the sensor detects the user's unique blood vessel structure and identifies whether a fingerprint belongs to a living person. 6 We've all been there—you need to make an important call while on the go but your cellphone battery has died. With this Armor shoulder bag, you will never be without a portable energy source. It is printed with a layer of photovoltaic film. The sunnier the day, the more charged your battery. 7 For any LOPEC visitors who have not yet gotten their hands on a bag like this, there's an artificial tree with integrated solar cells by CSEM Brasil. Under the leaves LOPEC visitors have the chance to relax and charge up their smartphones. 8 LOPEC will not only showcase finished products—the whole manufacturing process will be on display, from research through to product development. The exhibition is complemented by a conference that promotes advances in this futuristic technology, with key speakers from Samsung or the European Commission.
