This year we are once again encouraging St. Gabriel’s Alumni – past “Musicmakers” participants - who wish to continue to perform. We would also like to extend a welcome to those musicians from within our parent body who would like to share their musical talents with us by performing a short piece. Parents who wish to perform please speak directly to Margaret Williams. This year piano performers will once again perform on the Grand Piano owned by the Barbados Association of Piano Teachers. Parents must register their children or themselves before Thursday, March 7th by completing the registration form, which can be obtained from the Office. Due to time restraints, space is limited – sign up early (first come, first served.) Please leave your forms and money at the Office. For further information contact Margaret Williams at school or at 424-2269. Tickets may be purchased from the Office or at the door. Adults: $10:00; Children under 12: $5:00. Refreshments will be on sale after the performance. If you can help with supplying refreshments, please contact Sharon Maloney at 433-0480 or 262-0710. The play written in the late nineties was commissioned by Carib Theatre, and opened to acclaim in London in April 1998. They wanted to write something topical, about West Indian women, and politics. They did not want to write a 'bio' story, so they fictionalised two characters, set them in a real historical context, and wrote about class, power, reconciliation and hope. Directed by Canadian Jo-Ann McCabe, SITTING IN LIMBO tells the tale of two women locked together in a struggle between opposing ideologies, socio-economic backgrounds, and personal aspirations. One is the prisoner, Yvonne Campbell, based on Grenadian Phyllis Coard, and the other her jailer/warden, Nita George. Together they spar with one another over a period of seven years, strike out at each other emotionally and physically, and in the end, care for each other. It is a fascinating piece, born out of the cauldron of Caribbean politics in the 1980s. SITTING IN LIMBO features Philip Eno as the Announcer/Judge, Amanda Cumberbatch as Yvonne Campbell and Loretta Hackett as Nita George.
