THOUGHTS ON “LIBERTY”
Over two hundred years ago, our forefathers triumphed over superior military forces because their spirit
of liberty ran high. Only as one recovers that spirit of liberty can we be free from bondage, and only in the
spirit of Lord can we find that true liberty that gives the endurance and vision needed today. “Where the
spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.” ( 2 Corinthians 3:17).
Thomas Jefferson said, “ The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time” and, later, in the Declaration of Independence….”That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
In 1775 at the Virginia Convention, Patrick Henry asked, “Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take,
but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
In his Gettysburg Address in 1863, Abraham Lincoln said…..”Four score and seven years ago our fathers
brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all
men are created equal…..”
Woodrow Wilson stated, “The history of liberty is a history of the limitations of governmental power, not
the increase of it.”
In Washington, D.C., over the two marble entrances to the Supreme Court of the United States are these
inscriptions: over one we read, “ Equal Justice Under Law,” and over the other, “Justice is the Guardian of
Liberty.” These words were placed there by men who believed in the Constitution of the United States, the
latter having many provisions that were directly derived from the Magna Carta.
Daniel Webster said, “God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and
defend it.”
Remember, “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”
As citizens, we “pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States, and to the republic for which it stands,
one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Our Liberty Bell was cast in England over 300 years ago, and was brought to these shores during the reign
of King Charles II soon after the deeding of the colony to William Penn. It bears the inscription from the Bible: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof” (Leviticus 25:10).
Our forefathers were God-fearing, devout men who later won their independence by the help of God.
William Penn said, “Men must be governed by God, or ruled by tyrants.”
NOTE TO READERS
Because of our church damages by fire when hit by lightning on May 27th, many quick changes became
necessary including relocating our offices. Also our means of communication have been hampered. Therefore, our June and July Maps are being condensed into one newsletter. God is good and he causes good
things to surface even in negative circumstances. Thanks for your patient understanding and give God the

In September, Pastor Lee will resume his “Fireside Chats,” to be held on the 1st Thursday of every other
month at 10 am. The Purpose? To provide updates about the vision and ministries of Crossroads. Refreshments are served.
OUR SECRETARY IS RETIRING
You may or may not have heard that CCC's beloved Administrative Secretary is retiring after serving 19
years in that position. Maxine’s final day will be Friday, August 12. A Come-&-Go Reception will be held in
CCCs All Purpose Room July 31-- 1:30 - 3:30 PM. There will also be a "Blessing Box" for cards, notes & gifts
available beginning Sunday, July 17 thru August 12. Please share your love and appreciation to this special lady!
KEENAGERS CLASS
Temporarily the KeenAgers are meeting at 9:15 AM each Sunday in the room designated as “Wayne’s
World” at the Venue. 1 & 2 Peter are currently being studied. Come and join us.
SPECIAL SUMMER EVENT
On Thursday August 18, at 2 PM, come and join us for a special and “cool” summer gathering. “Dogs Go To
Heaven”, a DVD featuring Christian comedian Mark Lowry, will be shown. Come for the laughter and a spiritual blessing. The event location will be announced later.
