THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTNENANCE OPPORTUNITY at THE POLO CLUB
This is an opportunity to become an essential member of the senior leadership team at one of the most
progressive and visible clubs in the country. The new Director of Golf Course Maintenance will have the
opportunity to oversee and manage the re-grassing of both courses within the next two years and
create “best in market” conditions on the Club’s two Championship courses.

The Polo Club of Boca Raton offers two distinctly different 18-hole Championship golf courses designed
by Tim Freeland. The Club Course offers an exciting layout for all skill levels while the Equestrian Course
is the Club’s 7,000+ yard layout, sporting classic contours, strategically placed bunkers and lakes, and
challenging green layouts and pin placements. The golf courses are scheduled for re-grassing in 2017
and 2018.
The 145,000 square foot Clubhouse facility boasts 4 restaurants, two card rooms, golf and tennis pro
shops, a library, a billiards room, four meeting rooms and two lounges. In addition, the outdoor pool and
recreation area features a casual poolside café offering drinks and dining options. The Spa building,
which is adjacent to the main clubhouse, contains a state-of-the-art fitness facility, massage rooms, an
on-site physical therapy clinic, a hair and nail salon, and 30,000 square foot parking garage. Of the
Club’s expertly maintained 27 Har-Tru tennis courts, 7 are lighted for evening play. In 2010, the
Professional Tennis Registry voted the Polo Club as the #1 private tennis facility of the year.

DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTNENANCE POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director of Golf Course Maintenance (DOGCM) reports directly to the General Manager/Chief
Operating Officer and has responsibility for all day-to-day operations of the golf courses and practice
areas. The DOGCM will lead and manage their department to ensure superb golfing conditions.
Continuing education and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success.
In addition, the DOGCM will provide innovative and relevant leadership and in perpetuating and
fostering an educational culture of developing and producing future turf professionals. The DOGCM
must have a natural style of “sincere engagement” with members and staff with a love of the game of
golf along with a relentless attention to detail.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS







The Club is seeking an energetic and creative professional who possess knowledge of, and
expertise in, the latest in agronomy practices and technologies.
The ideal candidate will have had a progressive career path as a Golf Course Superintendent
with a proven record of providing outstanding service at the highest possible level in a similar
quality club environment.
The Club desires to enhance all of its golf course maintenance operations and provide verifiable
results in producing a ‘premier golf experience.’
Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
Must be a golfer and have an understanding of the relationship between golf course
maintenance, the game of golf and the member experience.
The successful candidate will be a leader and a team player, be highly visible and demonstrate
exceptional interpersonal skills, staff development and retention capabilities, accountability for
performance, and departmental leadership.
Business and budget management skills and financial acumen are key elements for successfully







executing the duties of the position.
Passionate about his/her profession.
Detail oriented, with strong observational skills.
Able to train, retain and mentor staff and to develop an intern program.
Experience with re-grassing, grow-in or golf course construction experience; experience with
Celebration is highly desirable.
Experience with ultra dwarfs and providing superior putting surfaces is required.
An understanding of the global vision of the Club and the golf program, along with the ability to
be engaging and an integral member of the senior leadership team.
A professional who enjoys an excellent reputation with his/her current membership and GCSAA
peers.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree (A.A.) or Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Agronomy, Horticulture or a related science plus a
minimum of four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education
and experience. Certification is preferred.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Club, in addition to the
customary GCSAA benefits, offers an excellent bonus and benefit package.
