Connecting to the new University of Otago wired network: Mac OS 10.7 – 10.10 These instructions will help you connect your computer to the new University of Otago wired network once it is available in your location. Configuring Your Computer for the New Network • If you are setting up a brand new computer, please contact your departmental IT support staff to configure it for the new network. • If your computer is already connecting to the current University of Otago wired network, download the Apple configuration profile from the its-‐software storage server: 1. In the Finder, click on Go at the top of the window and choose Connect to Server… from the drop-‐down menu 2. Under Server Address: type the following: smb://storage.hcs-‐p01.otago.ac.nz/its-‐software and click the Connect button 3. If not already selected, select the Registered User radio button 4. Under Name, type in your University username followed by @registry.otago.ac.nz (e.g. [email protected]) 5. Under Password, type in your University password and click the Connect button. You will find the profile under CWIS > Network Connection > UO Wired 802.1x.mobileconfig.zip Double-‐click on the file to unzip it and save it to your Downloads folder. 2. Double-‐click the UO Wired 802.1x.mobileconfig file in your Downloads folder to install the Apple configuration profile on your computer (NB: you will see a pop-‐up message saying “This profile will configure your Mac for the following: Wi-‐Fi Network”, however this is the correct profile so ignore this). Click Continue on all prompts and do not enter optional credential information. Once the installation is complete you will see the 802.1x profile pane displayed on your desktop. 2 3. Select System Preferences from the dock and click on Network. From the Network window, select Ethernet from the left pane. Check that Using DHCP appears in the drop-‐down menu, and click on the Advanced… button. 4. Click the 802.1X tab at the top. Ensure that the checkbox to Enable automatic connection is selected. Click OK to return to the Network configuration window. 3 Connecting to the New Network 1. Restart your computer and make sure the network cable from your computer is plugged into your wall outlet. 2. Enter your University username and password when prompted. 3. Select to remember the credentials entered (only if you are the sole user of this computer) and click OK. 4. Verify that Ethernet is connected and the authentication information is shown in the Network window. Click Apply and close the window. 4 You are now connected. Check your connection by opening your web browser and going to a University of Otago website and an external website, for example to http://www.otago.ac.nz and http://www.bbc.com If you still can’t connect to the network, please phone the ITS Service Desk on (479) 8888 or 0800 479 888.
