Into the hidden caves within the Grand Canyon, 500 feet down into the icy blue depths of ice caves
in Greenland, deep in the underwater caverns and caves in the jungles of the Yucatan, we follow
two “cavers” whose thirst for adventure grows with each expedition. Yet they are not just
adventurers, they are scientists in search of microscopic creatures who live in these remote
places—creatures called extremophiles. For these scientists who are compelled to push their limits
in hostile environments, the thrill of new discovery make cave exploration—and your suspenseful,
vivid witness of it—an awe-inspiring experience!
Vocabulary (Grades 1-12)
Try the following activities with the vocabulary words to the right. Depending
on the age and ability of your students, they may be able to complete
