LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Prayer-Fasting-Almsgiving: The Three Pillars of Lent
Students in grades 3-8 made a twisted strand of three colored pieces of yarn at the start of Lent. They
have been encouraged to wear the bracelet or attach it to their backpack as a daily reminder of their
Lenten journey. Students have three more weeks to contribute to the almsgiving project for our sister
school in Uganda. We will have two more opportunities to pray the Stations of the Cross (Tuesday March
12 and 19 at 7:50) and we will conclude our Lenten experiences with the Seder Meal on Holy Thursday,
March 28. Any parent that wishes to join us for the Seder Meal celebration is most welcome. Please
notify the school office by March 20 in order for us to plan the seating arrangements for the meal. There
is no cost to participate. If you have not had the opportunity to experience a Seder Meal, please consider
joining us. It is led annually by our fifth graders under Mrs. Fischer’s direction.
Our annual Passion Play is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20 with performances at 12:30 and 6:30.
The busy month of March also features our annual Bids for Kids fundraiser on Saturday, March 16. The
planning committee has been working hard for months on this project and they do a commendable job
each year. They are extremely pleased with the donations and support they have received this year.
Thank you for your assistance and encouragement of this major fundraiser for the school. I hope to see
all of you at the event!
Just as a reminder that the third quarter ends on March 22. Report cards will be sent home on March 28.
After checking Power School, please contact your child’s teacher soon if there are any questions about
this quarter’s grades.
This week, students in grades 5 and 8 took the annual ACRE religion assessment administered by the
National Catholic Education Association. The results will be published in our weekly newsletter as soon
as they are returned to us.
The previous two years, our eighth graders participated in a study by the University of Michigan dealing
with attitudes and behaviors. You would be most impressed with the caliber of our students when
comparing their responses to the national averages. My observations support the report data and I think
are indicative of the other students at SJSH School as well. If you are interested in viewing the data, let
me know.
Yesterday, students in grades 3-8 had the pleasure of listening to the Silver Lake College Concert Choir
perform. It was a great demonstration of the beauty that singing can create. Miss Rivera is a former
member of the choir. My two oldest children are currently members of that choir.
Miss Rivera, in addition to teaching band at SJSH School, also teaches band at Chilton Catholic School
and at Divine Savior in Kiel/New Holstein. She has organized a Solo/Ensemble competition with students
from these three schools for Thursday, March 21. It will be held after school at Chilton. This is a great
opportunity for our students to perform and be judged on their musical accomplishments. Thank you to
Miss Rivera for undertaking this project.
Reminder: Classes are dismissed for Easter vacation on March 28 (11:45 at SJ and 11:50 at SH) and
classes resume on Wednesday, April 3. SH students will not be attending Mass that day.
Together in Christ,
Kerry Sievert
