The search
There are 47,000 people living within the
city of Euclid, which is located 10 miles
east of Cleveland. Residents enjoy the close
proximity to a large city, while benefiting
from Euclid offerings, including the Euclid
Hospital (part of the Cleveland Clinic system),
an active parks system, an award-winning and
recently expanded public library and many
options for recreation and dining. The city’s
Shore Cultural Center offers numerous arts
options and is home to the Euclid Symphony
Orchestra.
The Euclid City School District Board of
Education is seeking qualified applicants
for the position of superintendent. The new
superintendent will replace Dr. Joffrey P.
Jones, who will retire this summer after serving
as the district’s superintendent for 10 years.
In addition to providing leadership for all
programs and operations, the board is seeking
an individual who will serve as a model of
professionalism, capable of articulating and
achieving the district’s educational mission
and vision. Cheryl Ryan, deputy director of
school board services at OSBA, is assisting the
board with its search.
The Euclid City School District superintendent
is its chief executive officer. It is his or her
responsibility to advise board members on
administrative matters, execute policies and
decisions made by the board and operate the
district efficiently and effectively. Euclid City
School District has enjoyed a history of positive
board, administrator and staff relationships,
and looks forward to finding a superintendent
who will continue to foster a collaborative
school culture.
About the district
The Euclid City School District, rated as
“continuous improvement” by the Ohio
Department of Education, is proud of the
academic progress made during the last
decade. The district looks forward to opening
four new elementary schools in time for the
2012-2013 school year. These buildings result
from community approval of a 2009 bond
issue.
Approximately 5,800 students attend school
within the district. In fall 2012, there will
be four K-five elementary buildings, two sixeight middle schools and one high school.
The district also supports a dynamic child
development center. Students interested
in vocational or technical training can take
courses and receive certification in many areas
through the Lakeshore Compact.
Proud of its educational connections, Euclid
is within 20 miles of many higher educational
institutions, including Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland State University, Notre
Dame College, John Carroll University and
Lakeland and Cuyahoga Community College.
The Euclid City School District is considered
one of Ohio’s 21 urban school districts. Eighty
percent of its students are African American,
19% are Caucasian and 1% represent other
ethnicities. The district has an 88% graduation
rate, among the highest in the country for
similar urban populations. The district is
proud of its emphasis on meeting the needs of
the whole child, as well as offering all students
full-day kindergarten.
The Euclid City School District Board of
Education is searching for a chief executive
officer with deep educational experience;
a passion for urban education; proven
leadership capabilities; a broad vision;
unquestionable honesty and integrity; and
superior interpersonal and communication
skills. A person able to guide the district
to new academic heights and who brings
unquestioned commitment to all students will
be welcomed and supported.
About the community
Along the shores of Lake Erie, know as
“America’s North Shore,” the city of Euclid
is named after the Greek mathematician. It
was one of the earliest townships formed in
Ohio, in the region known as Ohio’s Western
Reserve, and was incorporated as a city in
1931.
