Rosati-Kain Alumnae Newsletter April 2016 Alumna Honored with Charism Award Linda Shead '64 Each year at the Alumnae Brunch, Rosati-Kain identifies one alumna who exemplifies the traits defined by the word Charism. This year, Linda Shead '64 was honored as the recipient of the Charism award. Whether she is planning the Legacy Reunions, working at the Unique Boutique, cheering on our sports teams, or spreading the good news about Rosati-Kain to the larger community, this year's honoree never says "no" when Rosati-Kain calls to ask for her support. Linda's kind spirit and endless smile light up every room she enters, and her infectious laugh makes everyone around her happy to be in her presence. Linda credits her alma mater. "Rosati-Kain is the reason I succeeded and I see that happening for my granddaughters who are currently students here; so I want this to be a legacy, a family tradition. I am happy to say I am a Rosati girl, a Rosati grad, a Rosati alumna." Alumnae Mass & Brunch In addition to celebrating Linda's efforts at Rosati-Kain, the decade classes were also honored. Alumnae from the classes of 1946, 1956, 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006 were highlighted. The class of 1970 met and toured the school and were able to see the scientific supplies that the class donated in memory of their classmate, Elaine Childress '70. This yearly event has grown in size and the brunch was sold-out for the first time this year. The Alumnae Mass and Brunch are held on the last Sunday of April each year. If you did not get a chance to attend this time, save the date for next year, Sunday, April 30, 2017. Class of 1996 "Raising a Legacy" Night R-K Alumnae who have "baby kougs" currently at R-K or incoming R-K freshmen met for a casual night of fun at R-K on April 21. It was a great evening welcoming the next generation of R-K Alumnae parents back to our Kougar Kommunity! "It's not 4 years, but 4 life" alumnae mom t-shirts were a hit and we have a limited supply available for purchase. The shirts would make a wonderful Mother's Day present for your favorite "Koug Mom." T-shirts are just $25 and can be ordered by contacting the R-K Development Office. Sizes are limited, so order yours today! Our Current Students The tradition continued at the RosatiKain Junior Ring ceremony, held on April 14 in the school gymnasium. After Mass, our juniors were presented with their R-K class rings. Juniors are instructed to wear their rings with the crest facing inward during their remaining time at Rosati-Kain. At graduation, the girls are instructed to turn their rings so that the crest is facing outward - a sign to society and the world of their commitment and willingness to share their talents, skills, faith and service with others. This year, several girls were presented with a "legacy" ring belonging to their mothers, aunts or grandmothers. What a wonderful tradition to carry on. Do you have your R-K junior ring sitting in a case, forgotten about? Would you like to donate your ring to a future junior that may not have the means to purchase one on her own? You can start a new legacy by passing on your story! For more information on how to make this tax-deductible donation, please email the R-K Development Office. R-K hosted a College Signing day for two star athletes. Megan Martin, '16 and Nina Migneco, '16 each signed letters of intent to continue playing field hockey in college. Martin will be attending Lindenwood University in St. Louis and Migneco signed her letter of intent with Rhodes College in Memphis. Both girls are coached by Julie Murphy, who was last year's recipient of the Janet Esrock Coach of the Year award from the St. Louis Field Hockey Association. Coach Murphy began the program at Rosati-Kain in the fall of 2003. R-Kives Looking for past photos of your class? Would you like to donate R-K memorabilia to Rosati-Kain?
