An index designed to measure how much people love their products says Infiniti owners are
more emotionally attached to their cars than owners of any other brand.
The Leveraging Emotional Attachment for Profit, or LEAP index,
put together by New Media Metrics, is cobbled together from
the results of an annual 3,550-person online survey, which
started in 2010.
It puts a percentage figure on how attached people are to
products and brands like Apple or Disney, and ranks the top 100
every year, reports Forbes.
The iPhone, for example, ranks number one this year, followed by the reigning champion from
the last two years, the iPod.
Luxury automaker Infiniti comes in third this year, though, with an emotional attachment rank
of 59.5 percent, 25 percent more than last year (whatever that means).
Other automakers in the top 100 include Cadillac, at number six — they saw a 39.8 percent
increase in attachment this year versus last, suggesting for some reason Cadillac owners
suddenly grew very attached to their cars in 2012.
BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover take spots 13 through 16, respectively, followed by
Jaguar in number 21.
All of the other automakers' index were below 50 percent emotional attachment, but you can
check out where your brand ranked below. How much do you love your vehicle? (Is it an
Infiniti?)
