Let’s talk about training . . .
Amarillo College makes it easy for you to get
the business training you need, whether it’s for
you or for your employees. As a matter of fact,
we have an entire staff dedicated to business
training right here at the Downtown Campus.
The really great thing is that we’re here ready
to serve, not sell. We want you to get what
you need, not convince you to buy something
you don’t.
Open enrollment courses like Bookkeeping, Leadership,
#RealCommunication, and Project Management and more (starting
on page 2) are offered every semester and are listed in this printed
schedule. If you need different times or locations we can customize
just about any class to your specific requirements and send our
instructor to your office or site.
Why train?
Because the biggest complaint from the small business community is that
“you can’t find good employees.” Most employees don’t arrive at your
office ready to go, like a human version of fast food.Good employees
are carefully chosen and then carefully trained. Your employees can’t
read your mind, so they can’t know what’s expected of them unless you
tell them, and that’s why you train. Investing in training and sharing your
vision and expectations makes your people feel valued. Feeling valued,
not larger salaries, is the main reason employees stay with a company.
If you want everyone in your company on the same page, training can
help create a solid, value-based corporate culture that’s understood by
every employee. Even for the smallest business, it’s mission-critical to
train your people at regular intervals.
The training you need – when you need it – is affordable and available
right here at our Downtown Campus. Talk is cheap and time is money,
so call Leslie Shelton at (806) 371-2904 if you’re even thinking about
training yourself or your people.
We are the local training resource that delivers an excellent value for the
investment. We’re here for you. Use us!

Creative Writing
$179.00
Why is a character developed one way and not another? Would the story be different if
it were placed in a different time period or from another character’s point-of-view? Why
does one type of poetry work for some ideas and not others, or is that just a choice of the
author? Can you change your story into a play? What would you have to change? If you
have had these questions, or if you just want to see if writing is for you, and figure the
genre that best fits your writing abilities, come join in a Creative Writing course. Maybe this

Defensive Driving

Dog Obedience Level I

Instructors teach the National Safety Council's six-hour improvement training. Since its
introduction in 1964, this course has had the highest rate of success in reducing the
number and severity of collisions and their related costs. It is one of the few programs that
offer consistent quality and content nationwide. It is also approved by the Texas Education Agency. Reduce auto insurance rates. Receive up to a 10 percent discount on your
insurance rates and premiums for 3 years (applies to premiums on all vehicles for which
you are listed as primary operator). Dismiss tickets. Prior to taking the course, students
must obtain permission to attend the course from the court in the area in which the ticket
was received. Students taking the class for ticket dismissal must supply court information
in order to receive the court copy of the certificate. Failure to provide court information will
result in only the insurance certificate being sent. Sharpen your driving skills. Accept personal responsibility behind the wheel. Learn how drugs, alcohol, physical condition, and
emotions affect your driving and decision-making skills. Avoid collisions by choosing safe,
legal behaviors. Take your driving environment, vehicle and road conditions and other drivers into account. Learn how to use occupant safety devices correctly. (UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL AN INSTRUCTOR ALLOW A STUDENT IN THE CLASS WITHOUT
A PHOTO ID.) An online version of Defensive Driving is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week at www.actx.edu/intervention.

A gunshot explodes in the dark. A scream curls the urban night air. A private eye is hired
to find the culprit, but first he has to outmaneuver a conniving dame in the shadowy fog of
a bad romance. If you've ever wondered where this familiar trope comes from, you might
consider taking this course on "film noir," or "dark cinema." This course examines the evolution of this uniquely pessimistic, highly influential American genre, along with its parallel
literary genre of hardboiled crime fiction. Authors include Raymond Chandler, Patricia
Highsmith, James M. Cain, and Dennis Lehane; films shown include: Double Indemnity,
Gun Crazy, Strangers on a Train, Chinatown, and others.

New this Spring: Night Classes!
The Transportation Industry is growing and there is a high demand for well-trained drivers.
You can be one of them. This six-week course utilizes classroom instruction, range and

Prerequisites:
• Students must be 18 years of age before the end of the course
• Students must have a valid Texas driver license
• Students must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
• Students must have a valid original social security card on the first day of class
All fees and expenses are included in the cost of the course. Students who successfully

Continuing Education Division
Strengthening communities through lifelong learning.
Continuing Education
•
The Registrar’s Office records Continuing Education courses you have taken, and a
transcript of those courses will be provided upon request.
• Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded for designated Continuing Education
classes. One CEU is defined as “10 contact hours of participation in an organized
continuing education adult or extension experience under responsible sponsorship,
capable direction, and qualified instruction.”
• Students in Continuing Education classes for which CEUs are awarded will qualify
for one of the following: S — Satisfactory, U — Unsatisfactory. Students in non-CEU
bearing classes, courses generally designed for the student’s personal enrichment
and enjoyment, do not receive grades.
Academic Freedom
Students shall be free to be guided by scholarly research, study the substance of a given
discipline, examine pertinent data, question assumptions, take reasoned exception to
information and views offered in the classroom, and reserve judgment about matters of
opinion.
Enrollment Eligibility Notice
Students with outstanding obligations to Amarillo College may not be allowed to enroll in
or complete a Continuing Education course until the obligation is fulfilled. Students who
have received a Criminal Trespass Warning from Amarillo College will not be allowed to
enroll in courses held on any AC campus unless the warning has been lifted.
Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver Policy
A Senior Citizen is defined as “any person 65 years of age or older.” Tuition will be waived
on eligible courses on a SPACE AVAILABLE basis; however, the class must reach its
minimum paying enrollment, but not its maximum, for the policy to apply. Proof of age and
photo identification are required, and the student must pay all course/lab fees.
Continuing Education Courses: A Senior Citizen must complete the “Continuing
Education Registration Form.” Continuing education courses that do not meet the
criteria for state funding must be self-supporting and are not eligible for the Senior Citizen

Occupational Continuing Education courses that are less than seven clock hours in length.
TPEG Funding
TPEG funding for certain CEU credit bearing Continuing Education classes is available
to eligible students. Student eligibility is based on demonstrated need and is limited to
student enrollment in an occupation specific state funded course. TPEG funds do not
cover textbooks or supplies. The Financial Aid Office will determine individual approval
and oversee the disbursement of TPEG funds. Please contact the Continuing Education
Office at (806) 371-2910 for more information.
Note: Application does not guarantee payment of tuition, and the award is based
