St. Thomas Clinic 2013 Annual Report Living out the vision of a society in which all people have access to health care regardless of their ability to pay since 1996 Continuing Service in the Face of Change Our mission is threefold. We exist to: Operate a free medical clinic two mornings a week where low income uninsured Johnson County residents can receive free medical care, medications and have access to Prescription Assistance Programs. Make referrals to other community resources for further care or assistance. Serve as a clinical site for medical professional students of medicine, nursing and pharmacy. Look inside these pages to get an idea of all we accomplish with the support of so many! At St. Thomas Clinic, we remain committed to our original vision of providing access to health care for all regardless on one’s ability to pay. With the implementation of health care reform on a federal level, we are working to help our patients acquire health insurance coverage where possible. On a practical level, the great majority of our patients will not be able to afford insurance on the health care exchange, and have no access to Medicaid unless they prove disability. So our ministry continues to ensure that Johnson County adults have access to quality health care that helps them manage chronic conditions and keeps them out of the hospital emergency rooms as much as possible In 2013, we provided a total of $2,210,483 worth of services and supplies to our patients. We welcomed 227 new patients to our clinic, many as referrals for follow up from Johnson Memorial Hospital. Our pharmacy filled 6000 prescriptions, giving away more than $610,000 worth of medications. The Johnson County Prescription Program helped patients to access more than $1 million worth of medications directly from charity programs at pharmaceutical companies. Our patients accessed 1823 medical visits with physicians, nurse practitioners, medical students and nurses. We have been able to continue to provide more than $22 worth of services to our patients for every $1 donated to us. We are thankful for the trust that our patients and our community supporters place in us, and we continue to implement new programs and processes to increase the quality of our care. We are hosting more patient educational programs, increasing our oversight of chronic conditions and boosting our tobacco cessation efforts. We thank you for your part in our effort, and ask for your continued participation. Johnson County Dental Health Initiative Continues St. Thomas Clinic collaborates with the Partnership for a Healthier Johnson County to provide relief from dental pain to low income, uninsured Johnson County adults. In 2013, Dental Line Coordinator Susie Hooten arranged for dental care to more than 125 people. This care included extractions, fillings, dentures, and oral surgeries. The conservative value of services donated by our partner dentists (see next page) was $35,875.00. The Clinic and partnership also support Cedar Lane Family Dentistry’s annual December Dental Day.
