“Famous for Family Fun and Fishing”
Hi Clearlakers!
The white snow glistens from the trees and a
soft mist rises from the lake, I reflect on the
incredible natural beauty that surrounds us.
There is a calm excitement brought forth by a
new year as memories are waiting to be
created. Last year was an exciting season and we
would like to begin by saying thank you. It is
with much gratitude that Leslie and I
completed our first full year at Clearview. For
me, it was coming home to a family of guests
whose loyalty and love have allowed us the
opportunity to continue our family legacy
after 50 years of memories. For Leslie, it was
a new adventure with a transition made
easier by your support. By the end of the
season, we had the chance to learn, laugh, and
reminisce with you. As we reflect on these
moments, we realize how fortunate we are
and look forward to what the future holds.
Mom and Dad are is still finding it difficult to
move into their new roles as social conveners,
but being grandparents offers them a whole
new focus too. My parents will always be a
part of the business, I mean, they do have
their retirement home attached to the ski
dock. While celebrating 35 years of marriage,
they are moving out of their roles of total
responsibility and looking for ward to
experiencing Clearview as a retreat like the
rest of you. My brother Nick is still working
in landscaping in Haliburton and my sister
Brianne is still in insurance in Toronto. Our
niece Suzannah is enjoying her new role as big
sister, as we all welcomed Thomas Allan Ball
into the family on Thanksgiving weekend in
October. Spring Awakening
This past Spring brought an
interesting sight to behold, as
guests watched in awe at the
schools of spawning fish sunning
themselves at the water’s edge.
Tim Smith’s group, including Bob,
Rick and Steve, provided our first
walleye dinner of the season.
Some of our American boys, in
their self-appointed supervisory
roles, pulled up their lawn chairs
and “watched” as Leslie and I
worked on the porch at cottage 9,
or affectionately called the bistro
by the Walkers. One of the boys
commented that, “He pays people
FALL FOR CLEARVIEW
As the colourful leaves donned the
property in the Fall, the warm air made it
perfect event weather for the Tosello
family reunion. A day of games and
laughter was capped off with a friendly
swim across the lake, highlighting that the
young ones still have a lot to learn. Even
with the Thanksgiving chill, the warmth of
family was celebrated.
to do these things.” We turned and
said, “What do you think you’re
doing right now!” Woody Kale
brought some “Newbies” up for
Memorial Weekend and as he put
it, “It was a Chamber of
Commerce Experience.” as Jay
went out trolling on their first
night getting into a bunch of
Walleye. Those canadian fishing
stories from Woody were actually
true! Frank and Angelo Lucci,
with their friend Garth, stated,
“They caught more oversized
pickie’s off the Point than they
ever have before.” Summertime Awaits!
Cleveland had nothing on Clearview when the Cavs
won the NBA Championship. Since the resort was
like a mini Cleveland, the crowds erupted and the
celebration ensued, with all but one of our 22
cottages housing guests from the successful city.
Even the big house residents have ties to Cleveland.
Summer continued with a heat wave. Guests’
agendas included building sandcastles at the beach,
swimming for hours, fishing to catch the big one,
playing baseball games and enjoying the water park.
The sights

present—
the click

the sand
storm of
volleyball,
the still
stealth of
bonfire games, guests sitting out overlooking the
lake with a coffee and book, the smiles of little faces
as they touch their feet to the sky on the swings or
seeing the world fly by as they spin, cheering
“faster” on the merry-go-round. Make shift games
created by groups represent the ambience of the
beautiful life before us as it becomes tangible and
always present with everyone’s summer musings.
Each week brought a unique experience and
community of guests to the resort. From paint night
hosted by Ellen Howard, with a step-by-step lesson
to recreate an image of the resort. The celebrations
and family times continued with many fish fries,
scotch tastings, martini nights, and family dinners.
We always look forward to the Lee’s creation of
Clearview Olympics, “No Bill, a paper ball is not an
airplane.” A thank you to Cosmo for his impromptu
Karaoke setup, where we learned to “Let it go” from
Ivy and were serenaded by Kane.
WATER FUN
By the Lake...
Our free, twice-weekly ski tubing is
a highlight for many. This year the
award must go to Georgina Abela,
who at 84 years young, enjoyed a
leisurely mother-daughter ride
with Nelle. Thank you to Gary
Philip for his assistance. For those
trying for the first time, we must
acknowledge, Carter Votaw with his
“Rock On!” excitement, Gabriel
Andrews, Rose and Aurora Sotak,
Dom Cicconetti, Blake, Sloane and
Nate Kraemer, Cliff Flakey, Sonia
Palit, Maddox Webster, Tammy
Lewis, Stephanie Baker-Petrovic,
James Richard, Oliver Gely, Oliver
Allen, Moona and Rachel Babi,
Locklyn Lazenby, Holden Post,
Andrea Leplae, Logan, Daniel,
Storie and Karen Chalmers, Jacob
Rumley, Lauren and Michael
Sutherland, Camden and Brady
Hurley, Isaac and Elise Walton,
Mere Vanderlee, Nakkita Dubcek,
Angel Newfeld, Kaia Gilchrist,
Yasmin and Adriana Bishara, and
Chantel Marcoux. Waterskiing,
which follows tubing, is always a
day of excitement and thrill. This
year was no different, with many
first timers testing their confidence
on skis:Randy Holbrooks, Nick
Hasenauer, Robin Walsh, Kevin
Charbonneau, Madison and Dylan
Rodmell, Carter Philip, who never
stopped believing when he smiled
saying, “fifth times a charm”… and
it sure was! There were others like
Alyssa, who accompanied the
Waxmans, Kayla Lyver, and Rhys
McCloskey, who looked like an old
pro on his attempt getting up on the
the first try. We even had one
young woman who chose to push
h e r s k i l l e v e n f u r t h e r.
Congratulations to Kaia Schilte
who was successful at her first time
slaloming. The Zup and Knee
boards provided much elation and
laughter as guests young and old
took their turn at the board. Some
of our beginners this year were Joe
H i l l , M o o n a B a b i , S av a n n a h
DeSousa, Emma Kirby, Jessica
Fasken, Suzanne Vo, and Kaitlyn
Rumley. After all the years as a
driver pulling the kids, John Rivera
Jr., as a dare from his daughter,
tried it. He loved it! Sticking his
tongue out, he mocked her the
entire ride. We also had a group of
young women who attempted to
take the Zup challenge a bit
further. Not only did they get Zup,
they also stood on the board on
t h e i r fi r s t t r y. C o n g r a t s t o
daredevils Riley Webster, Makenzie
Lewis, and Ella Toman. We also had
a couple newbies delighting in their
initiation into boating. We hope it
becomes a lifelong love for both
Nolan Walker and Donna Primi.
FISHING NEWS: HOOK, LINE AND WINNERS!
The results are in for our annual fish
contest and BASS was the most
contested category. It was a close one
this year anglers, but the the winner
goes to Steve Andrews of Painesville,
OH, with his 4lb. lunker. Close on his
heels were Lonnie Lewis, Albert Lai,
a n d T e r r y Va l e . T h e M U S K I E
champion this year was Allie
Sutherland of Burlington, ON, with a
47.5 inch beauty. From big fish to
small wonders many young and old
enjoyed the fishing experience in
2016. With Paul Peyton’s group
saying, “It was the best fishing ever
here at Clearview.” We can’t just
highlight the men though, the ladies
were hot at the line with the largest
LADIES’ fish caught by Sue Wetmore
of Grimsby, ON, with a 3lb. 7oz. Bass
With the years shared here with Sue
and all her outstanding catches, I’m
sure she has a trophy case strictly for
her fishing trophies from Clearview.
She just beat out Katy Poon’s bass by
a few ounces. Kiss the fish is a game
often played by children, showing us
that catch and release is sometimes
just as exciting as a fish fry. The
largest KIDS’ fish goes to a young man
whose sole goal this year was to take
this title and join his siblings on the
Clearview plaque. I am proud to
announce that you succeeded Chase
Rivera of Seven Hills, OH, with a 46.5
inch Muskie. I bet you will have to pull
him off the ceiling when he reads this.
Some beautiful walleye were on
display this year by Shawn Barrett,
Bill Vale, Gary Coleman, Randy
Holbrooks and Tim Smith. We would
also like to thank Angelo Viola and
Pete Bowman from Fish’n Canada
who enjoyed their stay at Clearview
quoting it on their show as a hidden
gem. We were excited to see their
episode air on Fish’n Canada as they
highlighted the incredible bass
fishing our lake has to offer.
