What is a Radio Wave
• Radio waves: A type of electromagnetic
radiation with wavelengths in the
electromagnetic spectrum longer than
infrared light.
• They range from the length of a football to
larger than our planet.
What is the Spectrum
• The range of wavelengths or frequencies over
which electromagnetic radiation extends.
• Radio waves are in the electromagnetic
spectrum
Frequency and Wavelengths
• Radio waves are electromagnetic waves the with
longest wavelength and the lowest frequencies
• Radio waves have frequencies from 300 Hz to as low
as 3 kHz, and corresponding wavelengths ranging
from 1 millimeter to 100 kilometers.
• The distance a radio wave travels in one second, in a
vacuum, is 299,792,458 meters which is the
wavelength of a 1 hertz radio signal. A 1 megahertz
radio signal has a wavelength of 299.8 meters.
Types of Radio Waves
• Long waves, Ground waves, short waves, sky
waves, space waves are all types of Radio
Waves
