Three-time Champion Houston Baptist Leads All-Great West Conference Women’s Golf Team
HBU’s Paige Gibson named Player of the Year
Naperville, Ill. -- Houston Baptist, the three-time Great West Conference champion, placed six on the
2012 All-Great West Conference Women’s Golf Team announced Wednesday. The honors were based
on the combination of GolfStat and Golf Week rankings.
HBU’s Paige Gibson was named GWC Player of the Year and capped off her stellar career with a fourthstraight first-team all-conference honor. Gibson, who was the 2009 GWC Newcomer of the Year as a
freshman, was joined on the first team by teammates Kelsey Lou-Hing and Katie Paxton. Lou-Hing,
who is on the first team for the second consecutive year, was the 2011 GWC Championship medalist
and finished as the runner-up at this year’s championship, while Paxton is a first-time All-GWC honoree.
Utah Valley’s Lynn-Marie Nagel and Texas-Pan American’s Majo Camey join the three Huskies on the
All-GWC first team.
Nagel, who earns this year’s Newcomer of the Year honors, used a first-round GWC record 69 on her
way to the 2012 GWC Championship medalist honors. She won the tournament by one stroke over
2011 medalist Lou-Hing and two strokes ahead of Player of the Year Gibson. Camey picks up her
third All-GWC honor, repeating her first-team all-conference selection from a year ago after landing
on the second team in 2010.
Second-team honorees for this season are Houston Baptist’s Jessica Ngui, Natasha Lee and Jenny
Kang, Utah Valley’s Jordyn Dougal and Chicago State’s Andrea Rosado.
Ngui was the 2010 GWC Newcomer of the Year and first-team honoree last season, while Kang is a
repeat second-team selection. Lee won first-team honors in 2009, and Dougal and Rosado are firsttime All-GWC honorees.
Utah Valley’s Sue Nyhus was honored as GWC Coach of the Year in a vote of her peers. Nyhus led
the Wolverines to a runner-up finish at the 2012 GWC Championship.
