My name is Mrs. Wedemeier, and I am the middle school’s library media specialist. JRG’s Library Media Center is a thriving community of readers, writers, thinkers, and tinkerers. We are so excited to have you join us! In preparation for your 7th grade year, we strongly encourage you to keep your mind exercised this summer. One way you can do that is to take part in the Kimberly-Little Chute Public Library’s summer library programs. The activities and events presented throughout the summer are sure to keep your brain active, while giving you the opportunity to peruse their collection of books. Another way to avoid the summer slump is to read… A LOT. One of the most challenging parts about reading can be figuring out what to read. So this summer, we’ve planned ahead and picked out a “type” of book for you to read. Now, you just have to read it and play Gator Bingo. Choose 5 boxes which are in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line, and then read books that fulfill those challenge criteria. All formats of books are fair game, including fiction, non-fiction, ebooks, graphic novels, audiobooks, etc. Because we are hoping to exercise our brains, make sure that the book you choose is appropriate for your reading level. There’s no reason to choose something too easy that won’t benefit you in the long run. The provided bingo sheet includes two views: the full bingo board, and the record sheet. Be sure to record the books you read on the record side, and include the title, author, and how many stars you’d award that book. A single book cannot count for multiple squares, even if it fits multiple criteria. The bingo boards are also on our library’s website at tinyurl.com/jrglmc. Not sure what to read? The digital version on the LMC website includes live links to lists of books fitting each challenge. These suggestions are not personal recommendations from me; rather, they are middle level books that fit the challenge. Each reader and each book is unique; please be sure to find books that are the right fit for you. Students who successfully score bingo (5 in a row diagonally, horizontally, or vertically) will be rewarded when they return to school in the fall. Completed bingo sheets are due Friday, Sept. 8. If you have any questions regarding this summer reading program, or any other library-related questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Happy reading!
