WordQ's word prediction and spoken feedback offers writing
support that is invisible by design. Within minutes of getting
started, you can prevent, find and fix your own mistakes.

This is WordQ. It can be used with a writing
application or with any accessible text. It
comprises of ‘Options’, ‘Words’, Speech’, and
‘Read’. The ‘Mic’ button is a feature of SpeakQ.
The ‘Words’ button turns the Word Prediction box on/off. To know that it is turned on, it will appear
indented. As you start to type, WordQ begins to predict words. Once you press the SPACE BAR, it will
begin to predict the next grammatically fitting word even before you type a letter.

Words can be selected from the Word Prediction box by using the mouse, numerical keypad, or the arrow
keys.
As you begin to type more, you will notice the arrows and
diamonds that appear in the Word Prediction box. The
arrows provide usage examples and the diamonds provide
synonyms.
The ‘Speech’ button turns the Speech Feedback on/off. To know that it is
turned on, the ‘Speech’ button will appear indented. When you cursor
over with the mouse, or use the arrow keys, each word will be read
aloud. This will assist with word selection and ensure that the correct
word is selected. It will also read word by word or after complete
sentences.

The ’Read’ button is the Read-back Feature. It allows you to select the text and have
it read back to you. This tool is excellent for reading long paragraphs or using it as a
revising tool.

Click on ‘Options’ from the WordQ interface and select ‘Predictions…’ to
customize your Word Prediction box.
You can change the number of words in the Word Prediction box from 1 to 9
predictions. You can also change the font type, style, and size and hide the
synonym or usage examples.
The Word Prediction box itself can be displayed horizontally rather
than vertically and can be left in place rather than following your
cursor.
Visit the ‘Prediction’ tab and the ‘Selection’ tab for further
customization. Trial different modes and features to learn which ones
best suit your needs.

From the ‘Options’ button
select ‘Speech
Feedback…’ From here,
you can change the
volume and the speech
speed. You can also trial
other voices as each
language comes with a
male and female voice.
From the
‘Options’ button
select ‘Hot
Keys…’ They
allow you to turn
certain features
on/off simply by
a handful of
buttons.
Select the ‘Options’
button from the WordQ
interface. Select ‘My
Words’ to customize
your vocabulary list.
The ‘Main’ tab displays
the vocabulary that is
being predicted. From
this tab, you can add
new words one by one
or add complete lists.
You can also add usage
examples or synonyms.

The ‘Spelling’ tab shows a list of words that were typed but were not
available within the prediction box. This may be because of a spelling
mistake or because the word is outside the vocabulary they chose when
setting up their user profile. You can either delete the words from this
list or add them to your vocabulary.
Hint: Every week,
review misspelled
words to identify
commonalities or
patterns like letter
reversals or creative
spelling.

The ‘Topic’ tab allows you to program
your word predictions to be subject
related. Words that are about the topic
will have priority over the vocabulary
words from the ‘Main’ tab. You can add
your own topic lists or select one of the
already created topic lists by selecting
the ‘Import’ button.
The ‘Abbreviation’ tab
allows you to add
abbreviations to the
Word Prediction box.
In this case, when
you type “UDL” as
soon as you press the
space bar it will
expand to “Universal
Design for Learning”.
You can add
individual
abbreviations or
import a list.
