RRD 200 000 people affected Source: HEWS 46 deaths 50 000 IDPs MYANMAR / Burma – Weather Forecast 1 August 31 July Over the next 48 h, more heavy rains and thunderstorms may still affect some areas of northern Myanmar / Burma, including Kachin and Sagaing region. Heavy rains may also affect the coastal areas of Myanmar / Burma. SITUATION • Myanmar / Burma experienced torrential rains, floods, landslides, since the end of June due to the Southwest Monsoon and the passage of Tropical Cyclone KOMEN at the end of July. Assessments are on-going, but some areas remain inaccessible. • So far 200 000 people are known to have been badly affected and in need of food and shelter assistance, but this number could increase as other areas are assessed. As per Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation data, 524 895 acres of farmland have been inundated since June, throughout the country. • On 31 July, the President announced natural disaster zones in Chin, Sagaing, Magway and Rakhine.
