1. Thank You.
The first thing I must do in this newsletter is to thank all the committee for
covering for me in October. Special thanks to Vivien and Chrissy- I believe I
missed an excellent lecture.
Thanks also to members who commented on the speaker - Your comments
form the basis of West Suffolk DFAS lecture report to NADFAS house.
To become an accredited NADFAS lecturer is difficult. The speakers have
numerous hoops to jump through including giving a lecture for exactly 45
minutes to a critical panel. Not many get through first time. To keep their muchcoveted place in the NADFAS directory lectures need feedback.
Please try and add your comments on the website.

2 . This Month's Lecture – Carole Petipher
“The Cradle of Impressionism
Haughley Barns borders,
The ups and downs in the lives of the Impressionists along the section of the
Seine which has been termed “The Cradle of Impressionism”
A tiny section of the Seine to the West of Paris which would have represented
the perfect antidote to the claustrophobia of mid-19th Paris has been termed
the Cradle of Impressionism. It was here to 5 neighbouring riverside villages
that the artists who would later become known as the Impressionists, became
frequent visitors. In some cases, they even set up home for a while. The lives
and early works of Monet, Renoir, Pisarro. Sisley and Morisot will be explored in
this lively and entertaining lecture. Their desperation to gain recognition and
make their mark is apparent and both the painting styles adopted, and subject
matter depicted were to cause a Revolution in the Art World.
