Year 3 and 4 What makes us green? Saving the rainforest Spring 1

Music:
The children will be making their own
musical instrument and using it to create
rainforest mood music.
English:
Children will be focusing on the key skills needed to write grammatically accurate
pieces of work. This will include punctuation.
They will also taking part in debate about deforestation and the danger to animals
within the rainforest.
This term’s
values are love
and peace
The children will study traditional tales from the rainforest and write on of their own.

Year 3 and 4
What makes us green?
Saving the rainforest
Spring 1 2016
This term in DT the children are going to
make their own paper mache parrot money
box. They will also be looking at packaging
and how it can be reduced to help with
deforestation.
In art they will be looking at rainforest
paintings, identifying different shades of
green, and creating their own rainforest
camouflage picture.
RE/PSHE:
Children will look at the religious meaning
and the traditions surrounding Shrove
Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent. They
will also look at the Carnival in Rio.
Science:
Year 3 will be learning about animals
including humans and Year 4 will be studying
PE:
living things and their habitats. Both of
these topics will link very closely to our
rainforest topic.
Year 3 and Year 4 will both be learning how
to play bench ball and basketball. This will

Maths:
Children will learn how to create and write a
blog on behalf of Buddy the gecko. They will
also learn how to safely send emails to people
outside the school and how the check that
the email address is correct and that the
email has arrived.

movement, strategies and teamwork.
Geography:
Children will study locational knowledge of the different continents, focusing on South
America. They will learn about the equator and the Northern and Southern hemisphere.
They will compare the climate geographical characteristics of Swindon with a similar sized
town in the rainforest.
Children will continue to work on place
value and will complete a number of
challenges that test their understanding.
They will learn about fractions and
decimals.
