HEALTHY TEXAS WEEK April 6-12
Monday: Smart Choices
IT’S TIME for The Healthiest Week of the Year! Moises E. Molina High School is proud to announce its involvement in
Healthy Texas Week. Each day this week, we’ll have a morning announcement challenging teachers and students to
get involved in Healthy Texas Week by making smarter choices. We’re committed to making this the healthiest week
of the year. Let’s show Texas what we can do!
Tuesday: Re-Energize
We’d like to discuss good study habits. Did you know that you can boost your studies by taking breaks? For every
hour you spend studying, spend 10 minutes away from your desk. Take a quick walk, perform exercises, or grab
a glass of water. The water will help keep you hydrated, energized, and focused and the few minutes away from
studying will give your brain to take in what you’ve learned. Challenge yourself to re-energize while studying or
even playing video games.
Wednesday: Bullying Awareness
We’d like to discuss being friendly. Think about how good it feels when someone is nice to you. Wouldn’t you want to
give that feeling to someone else? Well, you can by giving them a “put-up” instead of a “put-down.” This can mean
smiling at someone in the hallway or even giving a classmate a high five. Smiling has been proven to reduce stress,
so why not use the Community Challenge as a way to boost the mood of everyone around you!
Thursday: Sleep
We’d like to cover good sleeping habits. Sleep is just as important to health as fitness and nutrition. You should be
getting around 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep a night. Cut out electronics a couple of hours before you go to bed to help
your mind relax. As champions of school health, we’re dedicated to helping you develop good time-management
skills that allow for the balance between studies and rest. Challenge yourself to put away electronics an hour before
you go to bed.
Friday: Healthy Snacks
We’d like to discuss healthy snacks. Like meals, snacks should be well balanced. Avoid snacks with too much sugar
or carbohydrates. Instead pick fruit, nuts, or easy to eat vegetables. An apple with a small spoonful of peanut
butter is the perfect school-day snack. Challenge yourself to replace one fattening or sugary snack, such as chips or
cookies, with a healthier one.
