S.O.A.P. JOURNAL
Dear Parents,
We wanted to take a moment to tell you the why behind
the creation of this journal and how you can help your child
use it.
River Valley Church's Go Kids journal was created as a
discipleship tool. It is a practical way to encourage your kids
to develop healthy times with God. You get to champion this
from home as the primary spiritual influencer! Your church
family will partner with you by encouraging and modeling
SOAP as well when we gather at the church building. As we,
kids and adults alike, spend time with God we hear from
Him. He prompts us and guides us by His Holy Spirit as we
read His word and pray.
SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and
Prayer. First, you read the Scripture for the date given.
After you read the Scripture, you take some time to
respond. Write down the phrase or verse(s) that pops out
to you. What passage are you drawn to? That is the
Scripture you write down. Next, you Observe in your own
words what you gather is happening in the text you read.
Third, you Apply what you read to your life. God is speaking
to us all; we all have different ways we are applying a
passage to our lives. Finally, Pray. Ask God to help you
apply what He's showing you in your life.
Included on the next few pages is an example to help you
get started in this amazing and life-changing way to spend
time with God. Please let us know if there is anything we
