Objective: To carry out a scientific investigation using the scientific method Warm-up: What are the 7 steps of the scientific method? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Question: Is a successful water bottle flip luck or can it be repeated? Background Research: Momentum- the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. Angular momentum-the quantity of rotation of a body, which is the product of its moment of inertia and its angular velocity. Mass-Mass is a measurement of how much matter is in an object. Mass is a combination of the total number of atoms, the density of the atoms, and the type of atoms in an object. Center of Gravity- the point at which the entire weight of a body may be considered as concentrated so that if supported at this point the body would remain in equilibrium in any position Hypothesis: If Materials: 1 water bottle Water Graduated cylinder Procedures: 1. Fill the water bottle to 20% capacity using the graduated cylinder. 2. Flip the water bottle and record the results. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for a total of 20 flips. 4. Fill the water bottle to 33% of its capacity and conduct 20 flips. 5. Fill the water bottle to 50% of its capacity and conduct 20 flips. 6. Fill the water bottle to 75% of its capacity and conduct 20 flips. Data: 20% y 33% 50% 75% n Graph: Create a bar graph for showing the data from tables from above. Follow this l ink for some help. Analysis of Results: Conclusion: The conclusion is the most important part of your experiment write-up. Be sure to follow the link so that you can see everything that is required for the conclusion. Saying you were right or wrong is NOT enough! You should: ○ Explain what the purpose of the experiment was ○ Re-state your hypothesis ○ Briefly summarize how you conducted your experiment ○ Explain whether your hypothesis was right or wrong ○ Use your data to support your findings ○ Include any “problems” with your experiment that may have affected the outcome.
