The following local
residents recently were
initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi, the nation’s oldest
and most selective collegiate honor society
for all academic disciplines.
Stephanie
Garrett
of Patrick Springs and
Logan Martin and
Natalie Mitchell, both
of Stuart, were all initiated at Radford University.
These residents are
among approximately
30,000 students, faculty, professional staff
and alumni to be ini-
tiated into Phi Kappa
Phi each year. Membership is by invitation
and requires nomination and approval by a
chapter
Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5
percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible
for membership. Graduate students in the
top 10 percent of the
number of candidates
for graduate degrees
may also qualify, as do
faculty,
professional
staff and alumni who
have achieved scholarly distinction.

After Prom Party
needs donations
The Patrick County
High School After Prom
Party, which follows
the prom and provides
a safe, fun environment for high school
juniors and seniors and
their guests, will be
held Saturday, April 23
at Rotary Field in Stuart.
The yearly event is
sponsored by S.C.A.T.
(Smart Choices Among
Teens) and is made
possible by the support
of local businesses,
churches, parents and
concerned citizens.
The party has a different theme each year,
and those attending receive a themed t-shirt
along with unlimited
food, drinks and games.
Rotary Building is always decorated with
the theme in mind and
it takes a lot of work
and money to make it
happen.
Event
organizers
Lynn Boles and Arlisa
Johnson invite anyone in the community
who is able to help in
any way to do so. “It’s
a group effort,” said
Johnson. “We need all
the help we can get! If
you have time or resources, there’s something for you to do.”
Boles said that the
party isn’t just for those
who go to the prom.
“We start at 11 p.m.
to allow juniors and
seniors who may not
attend prom to have a
safe, fun place to hang
out with their guests,
and we keep the party
going until 5 a.m.”
Door prizes are given
out during the night,
so if anyone would like
to donate a service or
item a college-bound
teen would use it would
be greatly appreciated.
Money is tight for everyone, and every donation is appreciated
so very much.
Those who would
like to help in any way
or have any questions
should contact Lynn
Boles at 692-8940 or
Arlisa Johnson at 9528302.
