ith roots in the Middle Ages,
cakes were baked to honor the
Magi during the time between
Twelfth Night and Fat Tuesday.
A coin was baked into the cake,
and the person who got the
coin was fêted in some manner.
The ring configuration depicted
the circuitous route the Three
Kings traveled in order to
confuse King Herod.

a ring of twisted cinnamon roll
style bread topped with colored
sugar or icing in Mardi Gras
colors: gold for power, green for
faith, and purple for justice.
