Aaliyah Syeda 6AW
The girls were presented with their prizes in assembly.
Look out for their logos by light switches in the classroom reminding us to turn off the lights when we leave the room.
YEAR 3
The Year 3 girls enjoyed a fantastic day at The Hepworth Gallery. A highlight of the day was our ‘Master the Plaster’
workshop with Jo, a professional artist. The girls designed and produced an interesting bas-relief bowl and had the
opportunity to work with plaster. We are looking forward to painting them in our art lessons.
It was interesting to see the exciting
exhibitions by award winning artists and
sketch some of the amazing work.
YEAR 4
4EB have been investigating in science
this week, finding out which drink is
best for our teeth. There is a clue to
what we found out in the picture.
In maths we have been creative, making caterpillars that can halve numbers.
We used numbers up to 999 and investigated how long we could make our
caterpillars.
In 4CG our new humanities topic this term is
India. We discussed with partners what we
already knew about India e.g. It’s a hot
country, Mumbai is a very busy city, it has
tropical weather. We then used the iPads as a
research tool and found out much more. Did
you know most people live in villages in India
and the most important crop grown for money
is tea? We are looking forward to finding out
even more over the next few weeks.
Ishani Kundu and Arianna Pascale in 4SS
have been inspired to create PowerPoints at
home.
Ishani visited India over the Christmas
holidays. When she returned, she used the
family holiday photos to create an exciting
Powerpoint to show the class.
Arianna was also inspired to learn more
about ‘Teeth’ after studying this topic last
term. She found out lots more facts and created a very informative PowerPoint.
We think she may be a dentist of the future!
YEAR 5
In English, we have explored the content of a poem called 'The Shark' through
discussion with a partner and the whole class. We put the poem in the correct order,
highlighting any unfamiliar words.
We then enjoyed writing our own poems about a dangerous
animal. We used the iPads to research their habitat, characteristics
and appearance.
In Art, we have been looking at the work
of Picasso. Using a variety of facial
features from magazines, we created a
portrait. It was great fun!
YEAR 6
6HJ had an enjoyable morning at The Chantry Chapel in Wakefield.
We learnt about the history of the chapel and how it has changed over the years. We thoroughly enjoyed learning
about the Highwayman Henry Walton and took part in a drama workshop.
We had fun creating a 'mood picture' based on the poem 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes.
6AW have enjoyed using the app Puppet Pals to tell dramatise the fables
that they have written. We learnt to put expression into our voices and to
change our tone to become the different characters in the story. We liked
sharing the fables using Apple TV and learning from the morals.
In Maths, Year 6 have been investigating mystic roses
by varying the number of points around the
circumference of a circle. They created some beautiful
designs and enjoyed using the formula to check their
results.

Music teaser:
Something to ponder over the weekend. Which famous British rock musician turned down an OBE in 2000? Girls can
put their answers in the plastic wallet in the well under the music board. Stars will be given out for correct answers
during hymn singing next week. Deadline for entries is the end of school on Monday. Good luck!
SPORT
We are delighted that Mariella Shuttleworth in 6AW has been selected for the Under
12's National Synchronised Swimming Squad with the City of Leeds. She is competing
in her first national competition in April in the combination routine, duet and solo
category. Good luck, Mariella.
Netball
The Under 10 and 11 netball teams enjoyed an afternoon of netball at Sheffield High
School. The results were as follows:
Under 10 B team won 2 – 1
Under 10 A team won 6 - 3
Under 11 B team lost 2 – 9
Under 11 A team won 13 – 5
Playing only their second match, the Under 10 B team looked a little hesitant but worked hard in both attack and
defence to maintain their lead. The Under 10 A team never came under any real pressure with Lillie Wightman moving
well in the shooting circle and shooting accurately. The Under 11 B team included 3 new players into the squad who
all put in solid performances. The whole team was a little overawed by speed of the opposition and were unable to
claw back the first half deficit. The Under 11 A team moved the ball quickly down the court with Lucy Dimbylow and
Lucy Crook marking tightly in defence.
Players of the match – Leina Tordoff, Isobel Cox & Holly Bestwick
Outstanding Play from Madison Ducker, Havanah Riddell & Lucy Dimbylow
Promising Play from Lucy Rushby & Evie Pickles
