One month residency at Auburn Arts Studio People’s Art Choice Voted by visitors to the exhibition and most number of votes announced at the conclusion of the exhibition Cumberland Art Award Sponsored by Peacock Gallery $100 (non acquisitive) Eligibility Artwork Requirements • All works submitted must be the artist’s own original work and executed between April 2016 and April 2017. • Entry is open to artists aged 15 years and over (as at April 2017). • All entrants must be a resident, a ratepayer, work or study in the Cumberland Local Government Area. • Cumberland Council staff are NOT eligible to enter. • There is no entry fee for the competition. • Entries are limited to one artwork per artist (entry limit will not extend to include a series of items as one work unless included in one frame). • The committee reserves the right to reject artworks unsuitably presented or framed for exhibition. • All eligible art works will be judged in the Art Award, Community Art Award and Professional Development Award prize categories. • All artworks submitted which meet the criteria and artwork requirements (right) will be judged however Cumberland Council reserves the right to select or reject works for exhibition at its discretion. • Where possible all works entered will be included in the exhibition at the Peacock Gallery however a selection process may be required if excessive numbers of works are received. • The artist agrees that the organisers reserve the right to take photographs for publicity/promotion of the exhibition and awards. • IDENTIFICATION - Each artwork must have the artist’s name, address, contact number and title of work securely attached to the back. A signed entry form must accompany each entry. • All Two Dimensional art works must be presented framed, or with suitable hanging devices (no eye hooks). • All Three Dimensional (sculptural) artworks must be suitable for easy installation by one person. Artworks will be displayed on tables provided by Council. Works must not be heavier than 5 – 8kg and must be safe and robust to withstand some movement. Sensitive items with moving parts should be enclosed inside a Perspex vitrine. It is the responsibility of the artist to secure their work accordingly and ensure no damage can be done during public exhibition. • Maximum dimensions of Height 100cm x Width 100cm x Length 100cm applies to all artworks, inclusive of framing. Works must fit within these dimensions and works above this size will not be judged or exhibitied. • Attach installation instructions if required. Installation using Peacock Gallery installation system only. • All entries must be able to be safely handled by one person. It must not cause a hazard to the handler based on weight or the use of dangerous materials. An entry deemed by Council to be a hazard on the grounds of current Health and Safety legislation will not be accepted, judged or exhibited. • Works must be stable and safe in their construction to minimise any damage during handling. • Artworks must not require power, projectors, videos or computers to be viewed. Any works requiring power or visual aids will not be accepted, judged or exhibited. • Artists submitting entries depicting another person(s) must gain the prior consent of the subject(s). • If possible please also supply a digital image of your artwork. Insurance • Insurance for artworks whilst in transit is the exhibitor’s responsibility. • Cumberland Council will insure the exhibition works whilst on site. The artist is to provide a current valuation of the work as part of the entry form. • In the event that the work is stolen or damaged, two independent evaluations may be requested before any reimbursement is made. Winning Entries Collection of Works • The winners and highly commended works will be announced at the Awards Presentation Day and Exhibition Launch to be held on Saturday 20 May 2017. All competition entrants are invited to the Awards Presentation Day. The People’s Choice prize will be posted on the Council website at the conclusion of the exhibition. • All artworks must be collected from the Peacock Gallery on Sunday 18 June 2017, 3pm – 4pm OR Tuesday 21 June 2017, 11am – 4pm. Other arrangements outside these dates can be made by calling 8745 9794. Where no arrangements have been made, artworks not collected may be disposed of at Council’s discretion. • Artworks CANNOT be removed from the Exhibition before the advertised collection days. All works must be available for the duration of the exhibition period. • Artworks will only be released upon presentation of the receipt. • Council will arrange notification for collection to purchasers for works sold. Judging • The Judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. This receipt must be kept and is required to be presented for collection of artworks at the conclusion of the Exhibition. • All artwork should be wrapped for protection and transport if necessary. Exhibition of Works • Artworks will be publicly exhibited at the Peacock Gallery, Auburn Botanic Gardens, Corner of Chiswick and Chisholm Roads, Auburn from 20 May – 18 June, 2017. All works must be available for the duration of the exhibition period. Sale Conditions Artists wishing to list their works from sale need to agree to a sale price on page one of the entry form. Other conditions include: • Payment by purchasers can be made by EFTPOS at the Gallery or by cash to Council Customer Services. • Cumberland Council charge a commission fee of 20%. • Artists will need to provide details in writing so that Council can arrange payment to the artist. • Works cannot be released to the purchaser until the end of the exhibition.
