FIRST Team 246 Overclocked
Boston University Robotics
About Us
The Boston University Robotics team is more than just about building robots. We are building a team of students from BU Academy who collaborate with each other and their mentors from Boston University. This team
works together to develop students’ skills in entrepreneurship, engineering, software development, and manufacturing. We don’t stop at mentoring BUA students—our students are youth mentors themselves, passing along
skills to younger students and peers in local schools. Season Review

Dear Sponsors…
We have finished another great season for Team 246, Overclocked, the Boston
University Robotics Team. I would personally like to thank you for sponsoring us
and making our dreams possible. Building on our success as the Chairman’s Award
Winner and the Tournament Champions in the FIRST Robotics Competition
(FRC) in 2012, we went on to be 2013 Tournament Champions at the Boston
VEX Qualifier. The FIRST LEGO League team that we mentor went on to win
the Best Design Award at the Boston FLL Qualifying Tournament.
Congrats,
Seniors!
Team 246 Overclocked wishes its seniors the best of luck
in college and their future
endeavors. Thank you for
your dedication!

This was a great year for outreach for the
team. Each member of the team contributed
at least 12 hours of robotics related community service; we totaled over 1,300 hours! We
hosted three tournaments this year, one each
in the VEX Robotics Competition (FRC),
FIRST Teach Challenge (FTC), and FIRST
Lego League (FLL) platforms. We hosted a
social event at the FRC Boston Regional
competition attended by over 300 students. We continued to volunteer in the BU
College of Engineering U-Design summer camp, which teaches engineering to
middle school students. Over the year, we demonstrated our award winning robot
at several events including the Educational Forum at BU Academy for elementary
school students, the BU Engineering Fair, “Set in the City” at BU, and more!

Dear Sponsors…continued
Over 15 years ago, the team’s original sponsor was the Mass Pre-Engineering program. This past season they
asked us to run a LEGO NXT robotics workshop at Roxbury Community College for middle school students.
These students then came and cheered us on as we were competing at the FRC Boston Regional competition.
Over the summer, through a MassPep camp, we taught a robotics class using Arduinos and robots from Machine Science.
Working with National Instruments, the LEGO Company and the Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO), we released a book (available on Amazon) on how to make robots using the
new LEGO EV3 Mindstorm kit. Also, in collaboration with the CEEO we successfully integrated LEGO NXT
Mindstorms and LabVIEW programming into our 9th grade curriculum.
As opposed to only using the VEX robotics platform to train our younger students, this past year we established a VEX travel squad. We had two working teams each build a robot and traveled around New England
participating in five events over the season. We also recruited a record number of mentors from the BU College
of Engineering to work the BU Academy students. We have placed a renewed emphasis on the teaching of entrepreneurship, business, and public relations skills into our program: we were again successfully chosen to participate in the FRC regional tournament quarter-final rounds, we have over 20 sponsors this year (our highest
yet) and began to form a relationship with students from the BU School of Management. Thank YOU for your
support this past season!
